Also, from the thing I posted above: our most recent trades with each franchise:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/ ... h_ID_2=ALL

Evidently we've never made a trade with the Rockies.

edit: Also to note, if you select Phillies and Phillies, you get all their trades ever, at least the ones that are known anyway.

I don't know how any of the Abreu haters, who ripped on him for his "lack of heart", can support a player like Polanco.

I know you are joking but I don't see the connection. It's obvious to me why Philadelphia fans hated Abreu and like Polanco. One of the reasons people hated Abreu was for taking too many pitches -- that showed he wasn't trying enough. Polanco does not have that problem. Polanco occasionally dives for balls and as we know Abreu never dove for a ball during his entire career.

Another reason they hated Abreu was because they thought he could be better than he was. They don't think the same thing about Polanco. The biggest sin in the minds of Philadelphia fans is to not play up to your potential. That's why they tend to direct their most vicious venom at more talented players.

Philadelphians generally venerate athletes under 6 feet tall unless they say/do something off the field to alienate the fan base. Even then, you get some leeway.

I think the height thing is just indirectly associated with fan hatred. Bigger, stronger, more talented athletes are expected to perform better and therefore have more room to fail. They would dominate if only they had some heart. The smaller less talented athletes have generated no expectations because they obviously maxed out their potential just to become a professional athlete and everything else is a bonus.

dad just told me a story that for some reason he never told me until now. he worked for the PA turnpike and one day in the 80s a young black guys car broke down. it was something simple like a flat tire or it ran out of gas. my dad told him he could easily fix it but the man said it was a rental so the rental company would just come out and take care of it.

while this man was waiting he asked my dad if he knew much about baseball. my dad said yeah that he was a big phillies fan. turns out this guy was steve jeltz. jeltz just had got called up that day and was driving to the stadium. he ended up giving my dad tickets that he picked up at will call.

no idea why he waited this long to tell me that happened.

Chan Ho where are you?

Don't mess with Rube

I'm not trying to say Rube hasn't been great, but giving Ibanez and Polanco 3 year contracts were 2 huge errors, IMO. The fact that's still still done way more good than bad for the club in his time here is a testament to how great he's been otherwise.

Rube has been great with the big trade, but pretty mediocre otherwise, imho. Gillick, otoh, was much better at filling out the roster.

This is Rube's time to shine. He has a weakness for giving guys an extra year (not only Ibanez and Polanco, but Moyer, too). But when it comes to acquisitions, he's got few peers.

If Howard gets caught doing HGH or roids, does he get paid for the 50 games he's suspended? Not saying I'd want to lose him right now, but sending him some in the mail in a year or two could be a creative way to lower payroll.

Grili Cheese has to be called up in 3 days or he can opt out.
