PHILADELPHIA -- It feels like 2008 around here, and nothing conjures memories of two years ago more than the way Brad Lidge is dealing.

"The last couple of months he's been pitching like the guy of '08," Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino told FanHouse on Tuesday.

"He's looking very good from center field. ... Even I was like, 'Oh (shoot).' "

The rest of the National League should be (shooting) its pants.

I like Ed Price. He should be somewhere better than Fanhouse.

"He's a guy that no matter how many times you face him, you just don't pick it up like you think you would. I think a lot of guys, obviously, are going up looking for it, and they still don't have a chance."

I was with phatj at the game tonight and I floated the notion to him that perhaps Werth is signing with Boras because he has a reputation of dealing toughly specifically with the Phillies - so he can squeeze every dime out of them that he can, while still never seriously considering anywhere else.

No basis in anything other than my imagination, of course, but I like my fake idea.

Something fishy about that math

.599 winning percentage, 6-5 the rest of the way ties the '93 team

that would be a good trick with 10 games remaining. but, heck with that. running the table ties the 76 and 77 teams.

So, I can't call it a "must win," obviously, but they really need to concentrate and win tonight's game I think. In my mind, what matters is getting to that series in Atlanta with the thing already clinched. It's quite inconvenient having to play them the last series of the year because it means the Phillies MUST have a four-game lead for the series to be completely meaningless, but it is what it is. I want - and they should want - that series to be completely meaningless. They go a long way to guaranteeing that with a victory tonight. Don't take your foot off the gas just yet, Phillies!
