People who actually know things about pitching: what makes Andrew Bailey so successful?

Small sample size?

K rate was very good last year, but this year it's just pretty decent. His ERA is off the charts though.

He's been hurt this year.

He throws an awesome cutter, the ball looks like Rivera's cutter out of his hand. Last year he was consistently 93-96 with great command. Had an arm injury in ST this year, don't think hes ever really gotten comfortable.

Dude is awesome.

How bad things were for baseball after the strike but before the McGwire/Sosa thing in 1998...

Check out these attendances - home and away - for the Phillies in 1997:

For an early season series with the Giants in SF - remember, they had Barry Bonds: 7,525, 6,260, 7,617

Against the Giants and Expos the next week in Philly: 12,099, 12,109, 11,883

At Pittsburgh the next week: 9,015, 8,850

At Houston in early May (your 1997 NL Central champions): 11,268, 12,179

At Cincinnati, for a Memorial Day traditional DH: 16,798

At New York Mets the following Friday: 17,401

At New York Mets in September: 13,321 (Richie Ashburn's last game), 13,871, and 13,257

Yikes.

What the hell was he flopping around for? He was the only person in the section. He could have let it bounce, roll, and come to a complete stop, and still have gotten it.

Remember when Phillies games looked like that?

the only chance i ever had @ a foul ball was @ a game in '87 where i sat thru 3 rain delays (joe cowley started and lasted 1/3 inning). it landed in the section above me and i hesitated to go for it b/c i thought someone behind me was closer - by the time i started climbing the stairs, a guy above me started for it as well and since he was running downhill, he beat me by a few steps.

man that freddy garcia trade for gavin floyd and gio gonzalez keeps kicking us in the ass
Why not just go storm Normandy and get shot in the face while you're at it
Why not get a plumbing license and run around high on shrooms stealing peoples' pocket change

Rube's reply to the question of Rollins' return from injury is random with a twist of smug:

Any chance he plays Friday against the New York Mets at Citi Field?

"It's possible, but he could miss the whole weekend," Amaro said. "He could play [Friday]. He could play Saturday. He could play Sunday or Monday. I don't know yet."
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Rube had yet to consult with Dr. Lopes.

Need to get Thacker's input.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of Rose breaking Ty Cobb's record, and to honor it, ESPN's site has a really long article about the sad life of Eric Show

so it appears Jack the Genius may be on the hot seat in Seattle, with the Lueke thing being the last straw.

All I can say to that is...

With the Braves and Phils in the rear-view mirror, Gaby Sanchez will serve his 3-game suspension instead of facing the Nats

Really interesting feature here about the guy who gave up Pete Rose's 4,192nd hit: Eric Show.

really interesting how you didn't notice this when Ed posted it only 1/2 an hour before

i always hated how his last name was pronounced "shou" instead of "show"
