Evidently, someone involved with this "movement" actually went so far as to go to Oakland (though I don't think it went much further than that) and they are having an event in Philly on Saturday, September 18th.

Poor, misguided bastards who evidently don't understand the first thing about franchise territory rights, but "ballcks!" to that I say: I've always wanted a real rooting interest in American League baseball, and this here would give it to me. Why let a little thing like it's utter impossibility deter them? Go for it, I say!

hey!

i posted this a month ago and nobody cared

I think the title of your original thread is apt. You posted that in the euphoria of the Oswalt trade. I doubt many people gave the post a second thought.

i titled it "timing is everything" b/c of the asininity inherent in clamoring for the A's to return to town when they're awful and the phils are great, but you're right about that being the reason why it dropped off page 1 w/o acknowledgement.

Wow. I was just thinking earlier today about how that feels exactly like 15 years ago.

Moz's comment reminded me of some documentary on the savant Daniel Tammet. They had a brief segment on some other guy who, for whatever reason, is able to remember exactly what the weather was every single day of his life. His brain is memorizing completely useless information.

That was supposed to be a bit of dry humor. People always say, when they hear things like that, "Wow, it feels like just yesterday" or "Wow, it feels so much longer ago than that." I thought it would be funny to claim that it felt like it had been exactly as long as it had been.

Obviously, I was wrong.

I laughed moz -- well, maybe not a laugh, but certainly a chortle.

Do they ever do an anonymous survey of MLB players that ask them, simply, assuming you were a free agent and could sign wherever you pleased, all other things being equal, from your knowledge of MLB franchises, which team would you most like to play for?

If not, they should. It would be a good tool for assessing how things like the divorce of the McCourts affect a franchise, for example. On the one hand, it really shouldn't, one would think, matter much to the players on the field already under contract. However, it very much might impact players' perceptions of the franchise, and thus their interest in playing for them.

I'd love to see where the Phillies would rank in such a survey now. I'd also love to see where the DOdgers and Mets rank.
