Hate the Yankees, hate Jeter.

I have no problem with what he did there. Good acting.

You'd never see Utley fake grimacing and carrying on like that

So, once and for all:

Jeter < Utley < Ditka

What about mini-Ditka?

I have no problem with what Jeter did. He overacted though, playing up the pain after the ump had already awarded him 1B.

I don't care that he did it - I once saw Kenny Lofton do the same thing when he was on the Phillies, and I thought then and still think that it was awesome - but having the trainer come out to "look at his wrist" makes it pretty gay, IMO.

What I don't get is why he ever mentioned it publicly.

Stark is on top of it

SC too

Actually, ESPN is all over it:

On a poll, 55% say it's gamemanship as opposed to cheating.

That is a smart play though.

My first though was "Utleyesque."

well, it is indeed in the manner of Utley; but Utley, no fraud he, has no problem with the pitch actually hitting him
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

He wouldn't have danced around either, just immediately put his head down and run to first base, maybe shaking the arm/clenching the hand on the way.

Preeeeee-cisely. You know you're a mincing what-have-you when Michael Kay (the Mr. Blackwell of baseball uniform couture) starts gushing about your stagecraft on the ball diamond.

I agree with you guys. What I was thinking was the maneuver itself -- having the ball hit the bat and pretending it hit him. Utley would have just headed to first without the theatrics. But he'dda done the fake out I'm almost certain.

When Utley actually did get his hand broke on a pitch he didn't make as much a fuss as Jeter did if I remember right.

Along this same train of thought, I really enjoy the way Utley turns into the high and tight breaking balls and change-ups and gets 1B easy.

Why isn't that as teachable as shooting free throws?

When more of your minor league hitters are Valdez's than Utley's, wouldn't it be worth something to school some of them in that, nearly as much as teaching them how to bunt?

I just watched it. He flung his hand down, jumped up and down a couple of times and then the next thing you know he's on first. He ended up scoring that inning and had two more at bats. Didn't come out of the game.

That's what I thought. Thanks.

Nice, nice get.

Early line on odds of Wilson's future occupancy of a phillies roster spot: gotta be better than Werth's

Watch the slow-mo closely, and focus on his lead (left) elbow. I think the ball might glance off of it before it hits the bat. I think that would explain Jeter's reaction. I don't think anyone's that good an actor.
