LMFAO

I tuned in as well. He is now defending himself by saying the Phillies were lucky last year and were especially lucky that they did not have to face the Cubs.

"Halladay ensures me that the Phils would go to the World Series"

Lee doesn't ensure anything. He's probably too left handed for Howard's liking.

We have Walker and Register on the roster right now. Let Lopez take over Condrey/Park's long man job until he comes back.

The worst part is when they won the WFC that asshole was on the field with a shirt and hat and bottle of champagne. I hate him in his guts

Watch after the last pitch, he's one of the first guys on the field.

Steve Phillips (3:14 PM)

I don't think that JP Riccardi should have traded Halladay for the package that the Phillies gave up for Lee. I understand why Riccardi was asking for the move, because he has arguably the best pitcher in the AL. The trade deadline hasn't passed. There are still teams interested in Halladay. STay tuned because he might come out of this looking good. For the Phillies to get Lee without giving up Drabeck, Happ or either of their outfielders, makes it a remarkable deal for the Phillies.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I love when people derisively discuss prospects, as if Utley, Howard, Hamels, Rollins, Myers, etc., were never Phillies prospects.

I actually think Rodrigo Lopez could get us a mid-tier minor league prospect in return come Friday.

The gulf between the value of what we would have had to give up for Doc vs. what we actually did give up for Lee, plus the $8 million or so we're saving, seems like it dwarfs the gulf in quality between Lee and Doc.

Doesn't mean the trade will "work," but it was 100 percent the right decision unless you think an extra 24-48 hours might have backed off Ricciardi to the point where he would have accepted the lesser offer for Doc, AND you're sure that a competitor wouldn't have swept in and snagged Lee if he didn't.

What JFLNYC wrote about negotiating tactics and not rubbing the other guy's nose in it seems on target here.

Let me be really clear. It's a great deal. No question. On many levels. That's not my issue. My issue is, that I think Halladay is a better pitcher/player and was there to be had. The reason for NOT getting him was an issue of what we had to give up. Most of which was theoretical. If Lee turns out to be a stud for the Phils and contribute to WFCs then it was a brilliant alternative. If however, the increase in performance from Halladay would have ended up being the diff between a repeat or three-peat and not -- then the saving a prospect(s) is really self-defeating.

I'm not trying to rain on the excitement. It's a great deal, we are a better club, we filled a need, we saved top talent on the farm which I hope will matter eventually etierh in future deals or on the field for the big club. I just was salivating at the prospect of getting perhaps THE best pitcher in baseball with plenty left in his arm on the team I'm devoted to... that's all...

Again, not saying they blew it or the deal is lousy or Cliff Lee is Loshe or anything like that... if Halladay had never been available or decided to not waive his NTC or whatever ... I'd be as excited as the rest of you -- its just tempered by the fact that Doc Halladay was there and I was envisioning him in Phillies colors this weekend... I'll be a big rooter for Cliff Lee!

The economics part is good too, as it will help if he falters or gets hurt to have more dough. Again -- Halladay is worth what he makes...

I won't say more... not trying to dampen or mute the joy in BSG-landia

Lee + Drabek + Happ > Halladay every day of the week. Rube did better for the organization in the Lee deal than he would have trading for Halladay.

I dont think anyone could possibly make the case that Halladay - (Drabek + Brown + Happ) is better than Lee plus keeping our top 3.

Best deal for the Phillies since they got Lidge for peanuts.

It depends on if he has options, if we can send him down and keep him then we could trade him (even past august in a waiver deal) but if he doesnt have options, teams will just wait us out to dfa him.

They can send Kendrick down and put him in the bullpen. They don't have to move him off the ML roster

Ideally Lopez goes on the DL with a phantom injury for a month, then comes back up in September.

But we really have a lot of starters now.
