I remember Scully fondly from Saturday afternoon baseball on NBC -- Vince Coleman and the runnin redbirds and all that

Scully, besides being a real pleasure to listen to, also understands it's OK not to talk all the time during a game -- especially on the TV side. But radio doesn't really need constant blabber either.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Agreed. I don't hate Vin, and I don't love him as much as I used to about five years ago when I first heard about him and my dad said he was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but he doesn't shut the fuck up for more than three seconds.

The pirate beer vendor was just telling someone that he gets recognized when he is out at restaraunts. Also, he calls sick kids in the hospital. He mentioned that he doesn't charge a dime, neither.

I'm completely serious.

Yeah I watch a lot of their games because I enjoy listening to him but sometimes I think he might be on speed. His mouth never stops. Last night I am not joking he pretty much summed up the Reds lineups entire lives by third inning.

My favorite was something like "Bronson in Arroyo is a big music man, in fact he has a band of his own with a song collection of upwards of 150 songs. You can check it out at "name of website". Bronson grew up in Florida and also likes to fish." Then he went on to name some of Bronson's favorite songs. It went on and on.

I think he has to have a photographic memory because he doesn't seem to forget anything. He repeats himself a lot but I think what goes in that brain stays in it.
Do it again!

my favorite Scully moment was a few years back when i was up at IUP and watching the phils - dodgers on the extra innings package. i think it was Burrell hitting , but Scully thought it was Ricky Ledee, who was on deck and during the whole Burrell AB he told 1 of his stories about Ledee growing up, finally Burrell or whoever made an out and Ledee comes to the plate and Scully just repeats the story word by word when Ledee was hitting .

LOL. Yeah, it doesn't surprise me I'm wrong about that. I was going by memory of when I heard him a lot in the old days. I must be misremembering how much he talked. I just loved listening to his voice on a summer day watching a ball game.

Baseball announcers only come in two categories for the most part for me. Those I like -- Whitey and Harry and guys like that. And those that are just there. Cripes, even TMAC and Wheeler don't even bother me. but Vin I always enjoyed -- even if he talked all the time.

Abreu hasn’t offered at a 3-0 pitch since 2007. Going back to 2003, Abreu has faced a 3-0 count 372 times and has swung at the next pitch exactly twice.

that was the only reason i ever played Game Boy.

but i never heard Vin Scully say that on my Game Boy. he certainly did it in World Series Baseball, which came out in '94 iirc. so if they used it in the Ken Griffey game it was reused. he's a legend

a) The Chicago White Sox play-by-play guy is fucking terrible.

b) Does DeWayne Wise make that catch if it's not a perfect game?
