Am I missing something, or is it ... odd ... that Matt Wieters apparently has the fifth-most trade value in baseball? He's ahead of Joe Mauer and Brian McCann.

It might be a case of putting the cart before the horse, but it's really just a reflection of salaries/contract situation. Mauer is gonna be a free agent soon, while Wieters is years from arbitration. Baltimore would not trade Wieters for Mauer straight up.

We're averaging 44k a night, over 81 games and at $31 a ticket that's over $110 million from gate alone.

i'm sure it's been said before - but the Yankees announcer's "See Ya" homerun call is just beyond awful.

Mrs Beezer and I went to the Harrisburg Senators game tonight, and we happened to be sitting two rows in front of a group of players' girlfriends/fiancees (none of them were married to the players).

It kind of soured me on baseball a bit. I was trying not to eavesdrop on their conversation, but they were loudly dropping names of famous people they knew (which I think was in order to impress those sitting around them). A long discussion ensued about following the team around, because otherwise their player boyfriends would have a "roaming eye". It kind of made me sad. A lot of these women left their lives behind and don't do much apparently except live in small Harrisburg apartments/hotel rooms and spend their boyfriends' signing bonuses. I wonder what will happen when their guy doesn't make it to the big club....

Anyway, it was like Sex and the City the Baseball Edition acted out behind me. yecch....

If we play at the pace we've played so far this year the rest of the way, the Mets have to go 50-20 to catch us. That's a percentage that would just about match the 116-46 Seattle Mariners team from a few years back.

This is pretty interesting Beez. It did make me wonder how many famous people the girlfriends of Harrisburgh Senators actually know all that well.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

The Tigers have had six different players hit a grand slam this season. The Phillies and White Sox have had five.

What is with the fascination over Vin Scully? He sounds so bland whenever I hear one of his calls. There's no enthusiasm at all. I'm wondering where his greatness came from.

Listen to any of his classic calls from the '80s or before. The guy's amazing. He even makes the 20+ hour 1986 World Series DVD set a pleasure to listen to. The guy's been with the Dodgers since the Brooklyn days. Amazing. I think what I like most about him is that he's got this really friendly sounding voice and he was always impeccably prepared. The guy is a true living legend.

Me and my fellow child of the '80s friend were at a bar last night and we talked about how great Vin Scully is. Don't group us in with you, please.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

I love Vin.

And that RBI Baseball reenactment is amazing. One of the finest pieces of art I've ever seen.

They interviewed the guy who made it, said it took him hours upon hours to reproduce the Mookie/Buckner play. I'm both awed and disgusted by his dedication.
