and he hired Ruben :P

But it's hard to care about how much credit he gets when you know what a chair throwing spaz he is.

Yeah. There has been quite a bit of smoke over the years to indicate Wade is a true doofus. But TV's point is a pretty good one. He was very good at assembling 5/6ths of a good team. And he didn't make many big, big errors like a Soriano or Zito signing or trading away Utley and Howard for some klutzek. So there's that.

Wade's legacy may be that he is not remembered fondly and he will at best be damned by faint praise. But he did some good things in a tough environment at the time and we should remember that I guess.

I'm quite honestly surprised Prior has never tried to sue Dusty Baker

I can't believe the back end of the KC rotation consisted of Bruce Chen and Sydney Ponson.

One of the most memorable highlights of his career occurred on May 13, 1954, when Roberts gave up a lead-off home run to Cincinnati Redleg Bobby Adams and then retired 27 consecutive batters to win 8-1, on a one-hit game.

recently reminded of this. Seriously awesome.

Reds were called the "Redlegs" during the McCarthy Era because "Reds" sounded like Commies. Apparently Redleg didn't although I'm not sure why.

Like the fine Argentine reds he'll occasionally sample, Abreu is aging gracefully, with a full-bodied excellence.

Full bodied indeed.

"Mike only gets upset if you don't try to take the extra base," Abreu said, grinning

This would not seem to jive with Johnny Marzano's infamous double padding theory

Abreu has stolen 22 bases in 27 attempts, gone first to third like the young thoroughbreds, hit eight home runs and played solid defense in right field with Vladimir Guerrero unavailable.

If these aren't the credentials of an MVP candidate, somebody isn't paying attention.

MVP credentials:

- Hit less than 10 HR
- Steal bases
- Run the bases in order
- Defense is solid
