How come they don't have a red away jersey? I think that's the only combo they missed.

Even though I'm a Phillies fan, I think I want the new Baltimore and Pittsburgh away jerseys. They look pretty good.
Together we will win this game against the evil Space Yankees! Eat Fresh!

pettite signs w/ yankees, 1-yr, $5.5 milliion
He joins a starting rotation that already includes CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain. The deal raised the Yankees' projected Opening-Day payroll to $196.8 million for 17 players with agreements.

I keep hearing either Swisher or Nady will be traded. Would you give up something for one of them instead of signing an Alou, Nomar, Wigginton?

Jeez

Pettitte can make an additional $6.5 million on performance bonuses and bonuses based on time on the active roster.

Swisher wouldn't be worth the assets+salary for what his role would be (right-handed backup OF/insurance in case of injury), but Nady would be cheap and would go to arbitration/free agency in 2010. Then again, the Phils have plenty of outfielders and the Yankees aren't looking for any more. I'd do it if they could ship out Stairs or Jenkins to make the space, and give up a minor prospect.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

The Pettitte deal makes complete sense. The Yankees offered him 10M, he turned it down, which they didn't like. So they both save face. If he stays healthy, he'll make more than the 10M they offered. If he doesn't, the Yankees paid less for him than they initially offered.

They have the best rotation in baseball on paper. But their defense is still going to be barely average, which might take some of the shine of the arms.

 this makes me laugh when i think about the analysis i'd hear on xm when the cubs dealt for olson, and how they may be still trying to load up on prospects for peavy.

they've turned felix pie, who at one point was their number one prospect, into aaron fucking heilman

fuck the cubs :-D

The Cubs always have the BEST PROSPECTS EVER (or so they believe and/or would like you to believe), but at the end of the day, everything they touch turns into a fiery wreck with a sobbing, dirty child sitting in the middle.

I don't wish them ill (as long as the Phillies aren't involved)... it's just depressing and entertaining, like tonguing a sore tooth (apologies to John Updike).

i just get so f'ing tired of hearing about them. at work over the phone, i deal with a lot of people from the chicago area and all season long all i heard was 'cubs this, cubs that, this is the year, cubs cubs cubs, etc.' not to mention the national attention they get.

for all the actual die-hard cubs fans who live and die by the team, i hope they can get their act together and win something (i feel ok saying that post-WFC). but for all the lameass pretty-people fairweather bandwagoner cubbie 'fayans'... get bent.

i felt an affinity for them back on the WGN / Harey Caray days. come home from school and catch the end of the game - Ferris Bueller appearance, etc.
now, they can rot for all i care. unless they made it to the WS, i'm not rooting for them. they've become a mini evil empire in all but championship rings.
