ESPN reports that the deal will guarantee him $10 million-$11 million, with the option potentially making it worth $18 million. The A's got second basemen back in both the Joe Blanton and Rich Harden trades, plus they just spent their first-round pick on a second baseman when there were better players available. Ellis is worth about $5 million per year, but the A's sure are using up a lot of their resources to address one position. It's not like they don't have plenty of other holes.
