Can't complain about Wigginton opting for more playing time. My confidence in Rube just went up another half tick, if he really pursued him.

Yeah it's absolutely true that Ty would get dick for playing time here, barring injury to one of the regulars. I can't blame him for going elsewhere, nor Rube for not offering mad bucks.

Yeah, going out and signing guys isn't as easy as it might appear. Wigginton must have realized he wouldn't get a whole lot of playing time in Philly. So he signed with a club that made much more sense to him. He should play a lot in Balto.

As silly as it seems, Garciaparra might make the most sense. It looks like he wants to play in Philly and understands what his role would be.

If Nomar really is going out of his way to make sure he can play before he signs somewhere, he sounds like a pretty standup guy. That fact won't necessarily help us win anything, but he could just sign and be like "Oops, I'm hurt" instead.

Is it just me or has Matt Murton gone from pretty decent prospect to journeyman pretty quickly? I always though he could be useful and could be had fairly cheaply. It looks like the latter is true at least.

Time is relative -- especially when you get old. It was only a couple of years ago when you could read about the Cubs not giving him an opportunity to play (I think the term is called being "Dusty'd"). Now he's been traded again for not much return. He's a decent fielding guy who has hit lefties pretty well. He's been a pretty good on base + some power guy and I always liked guys like that. I'd have loved for the Phils to have picked him up for a # 25 type prospect (Golson or Mayberry).

Anyone watching the Caribbean Series?

The cameras just focused on a little kid, who promptly took off his shirt and started to floss his ass/crotch with the shirt.

The Padres just signed Cliff Floyd. I don't understand this move, he's old and injury prone and San Diego is trying to shed payroll, and has virtually no chance of competing in the NL West. How does Cliff help?
