Thank God it's the Nats over the Braves, but christ, I can't believe we could have signed Adam Dunn.

Nate McLouth gets 3/$15.75M hours before his arbitration hearing.

$1.5M SB
2009 = $2M
2010 = $4.5M
2011 = $6.5M
2012 = $10.65M team option OR $1.25M buyout

2010 and 2011 base escalators:
-- +$200K if he was an All-Star the previous year
-- +$200K if he won a Gold Glove the previous year
-- +$100K if he won a Silver Slugger the previous year

2012 base escalators:
-- +$300K if he is an All-Star in 2011
-- +$300K if he wins a Gold Glove in 2011
-- +$150K if he wins a Silver Slugger in 2011

And yet, he put up a wOBA .20 points higher than Blanco and .49 points higher than Frenchie in 2008. Chipper and McCann are the Atlanta offense.

It's really incredible how far this guy has fallen. For three years he was the best reliever in the game, and put up possibly the best relief season of all time in 2003. Now at 33 he signs a minor league deal.

I don't think you can top Eckersley's 1990 season.

What's weird with Gagne is he missed essentially two full seasons, then had a very good half season with Texas and a miserable half season with Boston, but Milwaukee still signed him for 10M last year.

wOBA rank by position for 2008:
10th-Escobar
25th-Kotchman
7th-Johnson

1 below average and 2 that are slightly above average. Maybe they make a jump this year, but none of the projection systems on FG expect that.

56th-Blanco
61st-Frenchie

Chipper and McCann have to keep up or improve upon their '08 levels for the Braves to remain an average offense(14th in wOBA and 16th in runs in 2008).

Chipper's going to be 37 in April, and even though he might add more to the team just by remaining healthy and playing more games(not a good bet), he's an almost certain lock to have a drop in production (that's not to say he falls off the table, but I wonder how much longer he'll be among the elite group of hitters in the league).

I'll believe Chipper's production will drop when I see it. His OPS+ has increased for four straight seasons. Of course, he hasn't hit 500+ AB since 2003.
