11:33pm: The Palm Beach Post says a tentative agreement has been reached, despite Gammons' comments. Here's the deal:

The Marlins will get Ramirez for Hermida, right-hander Ryan Tucker and two other prospects, with those four players being flipped to Pittsburgh for outfielder Jason Bay and left-hander John Grabow.

The Red Sox will send the Marlins enough cash to cover the remainder of Ramirez contract, as well as an unnamed prospect.

Pittsburgh gets Hermida and two prospects - two from Florida and one from Boston. One of the Marlins' prospects is believed to be Tucker.

I'm not upset. I like Manny and it would have been something to see him in the Phils lineup. But, the Marlins gave up way too much for Ramirez considering they won't get compensation when he leaves. I understand why they did it: The race is very close and they'd never get someone like Manny except under very weird circumstances like this. But they're paying a huge price for a gamble like Manny. He'll be further exposed in LF in that big ballpark and he's just as likely as not on any any given day not to show up physically or mentally. If the Phils had to give up a comparable package and had to agree not to offer arbitration, it would have been dumb.

We didn't have anyone comparable to Hermida or Tucker's youth/potential.

Sox did great under really tough circumstances. They actually got some real value back. Can you imagine if it were the Phillies and they had to trade a superstar? Oh, wait. . . We don't have to imagine. We've got Rolen and Schilling as examples.

It's still going to come down to our pitching for this year. For the future? I don't have confidence in Amaro.

I truly think this whole deal is being delayed because of the network's needing something to talk about with their trade deadline shows.

with cc, harden, "blanton", big tex, nady, marte, and pudge all moved already, the only big names left are bay and manny. No one is going to sit around and talking about Adam Dunn and a few relievers for 3 hours.
