We made the best trade so far this year getting Lidge. People dwell on the bad. Why? I don't know. You guys are masochists.

I guess we're pretty dumb as an organization, but we aren't always retarded. It's apparently a lot of fun to ignore everything we do well and just bitch about the things we fuck up.

Well,in my case -- I call them "mediocrity defined", which is different that pure suckitude. They get some things right, they also get lucky. The Rollins deal at the time was silly. But he got better and peaked as an MVP now looks good. Was it a great farm or luck that Rollins, Utley, Howard and Hamels panned out? One Brad Lidge for how many Jose Mesas though? That's what frustrates me. I wouldn't mind Manny like the next guy, but it's the overall inability to properly assess the team in the offseason and try to snow us with Eaton, and then end up with Blanton and watching our competitors make moves...

The Phils just seem lost, or over-matched a lot of the time. That's what medicore is, it isn't 100% messing up, it's not good enough to be the top dog, to win more than you lose and think tactical and strategic.

Multiple baseball sources have confirmed that the three teams remain in dialogue, and according to a report by the Beaver County Times' John Perrotto, a deal could be done as early as this evening.

There is also confirmation that other players would also be involved in such a deal -- that could include the Pirates receiving a Minor Leaguer from the Red Sox farm system.

That deal actually makes sense for all 3 teams.

MLB.com says we're moving closer to the three-team deal. The Pirates could receive a minor leaguer from the Red Sox. Dejan Kovacevic says the Pirates would receive four or more prospects for Bay, as well as Hermida. John Grabow could end up in Boston or Florida. Perrotto says it could be expanded to have Jed Lowrie go to Pittsburgh and Jack Wilson to Boston. The Bucs also like Red Sox prospect Hunter Jones.

The Pirates could get half of what they need to rebuild in one fell swoop by trading away Bay, Grabow and Wilson. Who would've thought?

We've pretty much had a good closer every year since Mesa left the first time in 2003. I guess Gordon stunk the 2nd half of 06, plus when Myers was hurt last year.

Most middle relievers by definition will suck.

No, I'm saying they are medicore. Manuel was not the best choice for manager. Gillick was not the best choice for GM. And they have had some great talent and a strong nucleus and have failed to support it and build off it to get us to or win a WS. That's what mediocrity IS.

How are we overmatched when we have been battling for 1st place the last three years. If your measuring stick is Bos.,NYY,NYM,LAA or Cubs then your right we are overmatched against their fan base, and their TV contracts. Those teams have more resources than us.Until we get more of a national audience an a TV station that can supply more of an income we will have to stay somewhere around the budget we have now.
