yeah, we saw this quote yesterday. i would hope that has to be some form of a smokescreen. 'having no place to play' a future hall of famer and prolific hitter seems to me like the most tongue-in-cheek answer i've ever heard.

dunno about "tongue-in-cheek", but the quote certainly reflects some body part of Gillick's shoved into one of his body cavities.

SI.com reports that the Dodgers and Red Sox are currently having discussions about Manny Ramirez.

The talks are said to be in the early stages, and there are said to be a number of obstacles that still need to be cleared. The Red Sox are probably looking for Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier, and the Dodgers would like to rid themselves of Andruw Jones' salary.

Wow. If they somehow turn Manny into Kemp, Epstein should be taken bodily into heaven without having to die.

It's a three way deal. We're going to get Andruw Jones. Which seemed to me like a good idea 6 months ago.

Phillies lead in Manny Sweepstakes

The Red Sox appear serious about trading slugger Manny Ramirez and are talking to the Phillies and two other teams about a deal, according to people familiar with the talks.
The Phillies may be the front-runner for Ramirez, who has told people he probably will OK a deal to Philadelphia if the teams can agree on a trade.
