They are trying to get other teams interested. In the clubhouse, they talk about maybe getting Pat Burrell from the Phillies and reuniting Manny with Charlie Manuel. The Sox have let teams know they'll take care of Ramirez's remaining money if they'll provide young talent, which, considering what Manny can do for the Mets or Phillies or Dodgers, is a nice free-home demonstration; he won't have had time to "tire" of owners who pay him as much as the entire Florida Marlins team.

I will say that if it's Pat-for-Manny, I want no part of it. Lateral move, plus we love Pat. Replacing him with the ultimate merc just wouldn't be cool.

Manny just hit a solo homer in the ninth off of K-Rod when the Sox were down by three. He stood and watched it for 6 or 7 minutes straight. I'm sorry, but this guy would be funny as hell to have on our team day in and day out.

But Sandberg was just a prospect when they got rid of him. Manny is a well established force of nature. And he wipes his ass with linens.

Except Gillick probably actually believes that Manny is not an upgrade from Jenkins/Werth in RF.
