Charlie speaks Japanese so they'll just need a Charlie-to-English translator and we'll be all set.

If Burrell was on first and Howard hit the ball in the gap, Burrell may not score, and then Howard wouldn't get all those triples he's known for.

we laugh, but somebody brought something like that up on dnl (howard doubles, Burrell stranded at third).

sarge was working the rain delay show w/ jim jackson and he said you want somebody with some speed hitting third.

well you need speed to trot home when Howard hits a bomb

So he'd be right at home here at BSG.

Abe must realize he sucks. It took the Phillies all of 5 minutes to find someone else to play second.

The thing that struck me about the press conference is that Arbuckle comes across as sharper than Pat Gillick.

I'm not sure if it's already been posed in this thread, but if Iguchi was there to be had this cheaply, and he's better than most of our bench, why didn't we acquire him earlier?

He only plays second base and we already had the best second baseman in the majors. Arbuckle didn't think Iguchi would be tried anywhere else in the field.

from the DN (Marcus Hayes):
After Utley was injured Thursday, one baseball source indicated that the Phillies talked to the Astros about Mark Loretta and to the Royals about Mark Grudzielanek.

I'd rather have Grudzielanek. I'd really rather not have the Mets get Grudzielanek.

Have you looked at his numbers? Lower OB%, less power.

I guess I'm just going by his performance against the Phils.

Actually his OB% isn't that much lower....

Not that much lower, but driven purely by his batting average. Iguchi is hitting 30 points lower, and has an OB% 15 points higher, plus has a bit more pop.

CSN showed Iguchi in the locker room. His interpreter gets the locker next to his, and he has two Japanese reporters following him. In his press conference, he said "I have lots of respect for Mr. Utley." That'll win him a few points. BTW, he's wearing #12....
