PHILLIES ACQUIRE IGUCHI (For Dubee)

Postby Trent Steele » Fri Jul 27, 2007 17:01:31

Second baseman Tadahito Iguchi was acquired by the Phillies from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league righthander Michael Dubee, Senior Vice President & General Manager Pat Gillick announced today.
Iguchi, 32, was hitting .251 with 17 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 31 RBI in 90 games for the White Sox this season. In 16 games against National League teams this season, he hit .311 (19-61). A native of Tokyo, Japan, Iguchi batted .281 last season with 18 home runs and 67 RBI in 138 games and appeared in 12 playoff games for Chicago in 2005.

Prior to coming to the United States, Iguchi spent eight seasons with the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League, where he was a four-time All-Star and won three Gold Gloves as a second baseman. With Fukuoka, Iguchi hit .271 with 149 home runs, 507 RBI and 159 stolen bases.

In 363 career games in the U.S. -- all with the White Sox -- Iguchi has a .273 average with 39 home runs and 169 RBI.

Dubee, 22, was 4-4 with one save and a 3.88 ERA in 30 relief appearances for single-A Lakewood. He is the son of Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee.

It may not matter, but "probably" a step up from Nunez is a underselling it.

Iguchi: .273 .346 .419 in 1300 AB

Nunez: .244 .313 .318 in 2300 AB

Interesting that Iguchi's contract has this clause: "contract includes clause requiring White Sox to sign Iguchi to an extension by sometime in 2007, or release him (effectively granting Iguchi free agency after three years of ML service)"

So, I guess that means you can't get draft picks if he walks because you "released" him?

My initial reaction is that I'm happy with it. If they had thrown in Rich too, I'd be very happy.

Oh i know he's much better than nunez, but even with utley healthy, without a pitching improvement i don't think it would matter, so iguchi is a nice piece of duct tape on the whole, but the big leak is still running and i see no moves to repair it

yeah, but can he play 3B?
if you don't know what the wrestlers are trying to do--how certain moves and holds are supposed to work and so forth, then it might just look like too sweaty guys rolling around on a mat.

Oh. I'm replying to a Steagles post. Um. OK.

White Sox just wanted to get rid of him I guess. He's not having a great year with the bat but he does get on base pretty well and he has some power. Really nice move.

Can't play 3B; in fact, isn't a great 2B

Last 20 Games for Iguchi:

.271 .381 .471 .852

Giddy-up

That is somewhat of a steal. Maybe Kenny Williams feels bad about the Garcia deal.

Very satistifed with this trade consdiering what we gave up. Better than having Abe at second.

Great deal. He has had a bit of a down year, but played better of late - and we gave up zilch.
