The beatles satisfy my more reserved, relaxing needs. The stones satisfy my more primal urges

Getting into the car after class this morning and needing to put together a presentation for my evening, I was feeling stressed out. Turned on the radio and the 12 o'clock Beatles block was on. Man, that was pretty awesome.

That was Q 102, which is now a rap station or something.

This changes every day but my top 10 right now are:

While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Revolution (the electric one)
Tomorrow Never Knows
With a Little Help from My Friends
Dear Prudence
Here Comes the Sun
Hey Jude
Martha My Dear
Rain
Good Day Sunshine

I don't really listen to the pre-Revolver stuff anymore.

Also, Ringo's "It Don't Come Easy" is the most entertaining solo song by any of them. Not best, not necessarily favorite, but damn that thing is infectious.

Blue Jay Way is a really under-appreciated song.

I forget if I told this story or not, but when I was in Vegas in June, I went to Cirque du Soleil with a handful of my friends because tickets to the Love show came in our travel package. I was stoked. After trying my ass off and coming close but ultimately failing to acquire the proper medical supplies to prepare me suitably for the show. I was, however, in the midst of a 60-hour alcohol binge that was about to enter its second peak, and was able to buy a giant Long Island Iced Tea cup for the show. I remember the whole show but I'm admittedly hazy on the subtleties of the plot. There was lots of in-line skating involved.

Near the end of the show, the all-Beatles soundtrack goes into an epic climax. They really back-loaded it: "Revolution," "Back in the U.S.S.R.," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "A Day in the Life," "Hey Jude," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)," All You Need Is Love." Lots of heavy hitters and widely known favorites in there. Anyway, for the whole show I'm struggling to maintain normalcy, instinctually going into air drumming and trying as hard as possible not to sing along, all while making spastic faces of ecstasy that rival mental instability. After a while, I do a pretty good job of doing this.

But then "A Day in the Life" started.

When the orchestra built up, and the pianos came down, and the arena went dark and silent, I let out the loudest yelp in human history. I can't really tell whether it was an involuntary explosion or if I honestly expected the entire crowd to go as fucking crazy as I was. All I know is that I was PUMPED. It was one of those moments where you're watching it happen as it unravels, as though your consciousness and body have separated, and you're watching from afar wondering "what the fuck could I have possibly been thinking there?" And yet, you can't stop yourself; you can only stand and watch the carnage unfurl.

My friends were mad at me. I'm really sorry but it doesn't change what happened. And to make matters worse, the crowd stayed completely silent for, like, another 30 seconds, and all you could hear was embarrassed, stifled nervous laughter coming from our row. I can't tell if the performers would have been angry or amused if they'd heard that. I like to think they loved it.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

Can't believe only one person listed Rain, also don't think i saw a Don't let me down mention. But that shows how many fucking incredible songs these guys made.

On a Stones note, did anyone hear Richards on Terry Gross' show last Friday? It was epic. Probably still on the npr website.

I've seen my first rat outside my new downtown apartment and have decided to call him Doctor Robert. He seemed friendly, yet up to no good.
"You practicing for the Hit Parade?"
