Joe doesn’t need to switch over Trump voters at this point. He needs his voters not to switch their minds. Things like this reinforce the views of those that are anti-Trump. Maybe he pisses some people off so much they decide to vote when they just didn’t care before. Either way, it’s silly and stupid to think that this is anything but bad for Trump. It’s bad.

Yeah, I mean, almost no one, relatively speaking, is going to read the Times story. And in the minds of true believers, as has been mentioned, the ability to avoid paying taxes will be seen as a plus, and the apparent huge losses will be excused as part of his elaborate financial dealings that are beyond the ability of mere mortals to understand.

But it absolutely puts him on the defensive. The early response from the White House has been to dismiss the story as Fake news and lies. But I think even the slowest among the electorate are able to understand that the easiest way to prove that is to simply release returns as candidates have done for the last 50 years. Remarkable that he's gotten away with not doing so for so long with flimsy excuses and a "mind your own business" attitude." But with it being the center now of a controversy, his refusal to do so, and he should continue to be pressed, may at least finally come across as desperate and dishonest to whoever those five percenters are who keep swing both ways on his presidency, or just haven't been paying much attention to anything but feel obligated to vote anyway.
