this is not entirely true.

if you requested one and do not have your mail in ballot, you will be made to vote by provisional ballot. which could be open to even more challenges if it is a tight race.

if you bring it to the polling place they should be able to spoil it though. you need the the ballot and envelopes.

EDIT: I am actually not 100 percent sure on that last part. i was under the impression you could not spoil your mail in according to the new rules. the inquirer guide to voting says you can. other news stories say you cannot.

They did have one bill that allowed for 3 days of what is called pre-canvassing. However, that bill made drop boxes illegal and allowed for people from other counties to work polls across the state. It's one of their big dreams to flood polls I. Philadelphia with people as some sort of intimidation tactic.

What is the point of not letting them count the votes before election day? I understand not putting the results out before election day, but to not start the count is crazy to me.

Although I sincerely wish Romney had come out on the other side of this, asking him to not support a vote on a Supreme Court justice that he would otherwise support because of a position taken by the Senate of which he wasn't a part of, when those very same Senators who took the position are weaseling out of it doesn't seem realistic. Asking him to personally right all of the malfeasance and treachery of McConnell seems like a long shot. That being said, this whole thing seems like a dumb political move which may end up flipping the Senate. The Dems would be perfectly justified in eliminating the filibuster and packing the court. The Republicans have shown that they don't care about fairness in the least.

Some Chester County Info that will be announced today:

Dropboxes for mail-in ballots will be available at all 11 Chester County libraries, starting 10/13. The Chester Springs and Oxford locations will also be able to perform all Voter Services activities, so voters can request ballots, fill them out and drop them in the boxes in one visit. The Government Services Center on Westtown Road will also have a drop box, which means we'll have two drop off locations convenient to West Chester voters, at our library and at Voter Services.

Romney hates Trump personally, but he probably hates abortion and affirmative action more. Maybe he'd vote to keep Obamacare becasue its based on his own ideas. I never had much hope that he'd not side with McConnell on this.

Personally, Supreme Court justices was my number one issue in 2016 (you can tie all sorts of things into a court majority, health care, voting rights, affitmative action, abortion, political contributions/dark money, immigration, criminal justice reform, gun control, antitrust and monopolies) and I didn't think Hillary emphasized it enough. Maybe Clinton herself didn't garner sufficient enthusiasm from some sectors who may have decided that if not Sanders, then there was no difference between Trump and Clinton, but getting them to understand that a favorable court composition could get them progressive friendly decisions for the next 30 years (Thomas has been on the Court for 29 years).

I wonder how long Mitch would've been able to keep any seats open or who Clinton would've nominated that could get 50 votes (and you assume Sessions is still in the Senate under that scenario, so no Jones).

Also, if Turmp fills this seat, he can save himself from criminal prosecution and releasing his financial documents/tax returns, so he has personal incentive to fill this before he's out of office.

Just a disaster all around that's going to have repercussions for half a century or at least the entire rest of my lifetime.

The next President probably gets Breyer's replacement (hopefully certainly if Biden wins and Ds control the Senate). Thomas and Alito are the next oldest, but they may be able to go another 10-15 years. Its going to be 6-3, maybe even 7-2 for a very, very long time.

Hopefully this wakes the mainstream media up that their "good Republican" Mitt Romney is a terrible human being who believes truly insane things.

the other huge problem is the demographics of the Senate. It is well shifted in the Republican's favor and getting a majority and maintaining it through presidential elections will be near impossible.

I think here you have to play a long game like Rs have been doing for 20 years.

1) Get people elected to local government and state government
2) Redraw lines favorably to maintain minority rule
3) Suffocate the opposing party political bench from ever developing
4) Hope demographics in North Carolina, Georgia and Texas keep trending your way (Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, etc...were not nearly as R+ 20 years ago as they are now and Virginia and Colorado were not D+ states)

It could also be 5-4 liberal in 10 years so the half century prediction will hopefully end up being hyperbole. I think the Supreme Court ruling against policies the majority of Americans are accustomed to and support will ultimately be a disaster for the GOP. Americans won't put up with minority rule for long.

Mitch doesn't care because he knows he will be dead by the time shit hits the fan.

I think I have settled in on this: they're going to do what they're going to do, there's no stopping it, so don't worry about it. If they do it, just add four justices if we can and make no apology whatsoever for doing so.

You were the cause of this nonsense so you get what you get.

Yeah and make it nakedly aggressive too. Send a challenge to Janus back up, and Citizens United, and every other godforsaken thing this court has done. FUCK. THEM.
