this is like the 'people get rich off welfare' claptrap; the numbers don't add up.
perhaps if someone has more money receiving UC than they did at their job, their job wasn't paying enough.

i've read numerous stories of people saying the $600/wk federal UI plus whatever their state provided (usually $100-$250/wk) was the most money they've ever made and how for the first time they weren't stressing about money in their lives

No doubt. This is more money than people are making working full time in retail, etc.

Which, of course, is more a comment on today’s wages than it is on the $600/week.

PA comes out to like fully gauranteed wages up to 55k or so. And anyone below that ends up making more than they normally do. If my math is right

Talked to a few restaurant employees whose places got PPP. You lose out on the 600 plus UC benefits if you get PPP. They were pretty bummed because they started making less on PPP. Just brutal.

What's the math? Most people on PUA are making the minimum which is like 180 a week and UC isn't much more.

Also taxes get taken out. So the 600 is really 540.

The variance in UC from state to state is crazy.

Is that true (receiving the minimum) for PA just now or always?

PA max is 572 a week plus 600. That's 1172 a week or nearly 5k a month.

Yeah, it scales back depending on what you make, but I'm pretty sure everyone under 55k will be making more on unemployment than being unemployed.

(Note: I'm not saying this is bad)

Have a friend who got laid off a week before her maternity leave started. What luck.

Also you can't be on UC for a year. You get 26 weeks.

I would still like to see exactly how many are in this position and how much it’s actually costing the country. Out this whole thing into perspective.
