I don't get that logic and wondered what others thought? If your party wins the Presidency, you want to ride the wave of popularity towards a 2nd term that normally comes for an incumbent.

I also don't get the logic. Even if Biden is viewed as one term only continuity and a smooth transition is key. Probably gives an edge to Harris.

Especially after the lack of an Obama heir probably contributed to a lack of enthusiasm among Dems/people going from Obama to trump in ‘16.

Think it comes down to who will have the fewest problems. Harris is likely that person. VP choices aren't getting you votes.

Am I alone in thinking that the fact that Harris was a DA works in her favor with swing voters? She sort of squares the circle there.

I much prefer Biden chose a running mate who isn't planning to seek the nomination in four years. I think the Democratic nominee in 2024 will stand a much better chance of winning the presidency if he/she is perceived as being chosen by the people rather than being anointed by Biden.

I think between Demmings and Bottoms, she has the least bad police/justice background.

yeah, can't piss off those "protesters" that compose about .0001% of the voting population.

Generally agree.

With folks on both sides questioning Biden's health and capacity I also think it could be different this time. I stopped short with "appeals" - each also puts off different groups.

@NateSilver538
Trump's approval rating drops below 40% (albeit just barely, to 39.9%) for the first time since the shutdown.

I'm genuinely surprised by some of the negative comments I'm reading on social media from progressives about Kamala Harris. I thought she was more popular than she is.

What is it about her that turns some off?

Where I am more than willing to throw out the perception of anointing anyone, a VP pick is not some beginning of a dynasty (very conspiracy theory), but I do want someone who has some continuity to finish what Biden start/restarts.

She’s not an executive. She’s a prosecutor. Throughout her campaign she showed a singular lack of interest in and ideas for policy proposals. Given Biden’s age I would prefer someone who has solid policy ideas and the executive chops to get those ideas done.

Joe Biden will be 78 in November, I think his VP pick will have a big influence on this election.

He would be one of the oldest people ever elected to lead a country in the history of the world.

maybe in normal times. people aren't going to flip to trump because they don't want the vp to ever be in the big chair.

They’ll make the safest choice for VP. They’re in full sticks defense at this point.

It's an issue of trust with her it seems.

I, personally, would pick Susan Rice or Karen Bass over her.

Yeah I think when you are probably up two scores in the game you don't want to give the other team anything they could use to try to get back into it.
