certainly. just highlighting how disconcerting is it that they couldn't reach the president of the united states for three hours because he was golfing.

Is it really an emergency that Trump tweeted support of White Power? An emergency to some in the WH, perhaps.

Seen numbers like 40% success rate for multi-lateral ones. I do understand uni-lateral is hardly ever effective. There are plenty of sanctions that are not "economic" too.

I think it is not smart to remove a tool from your toolbox.

sanctions are for pussies anyways.

Especially when the toolbox is limited.

They said there was "no consensus" about the intel and implied that now that the NYT let the cat out of the bag, they'll never be able to find out the real truth. Given the additional revelations today about the money trail, I find the administration's take yesterday to be its usual excrementum bovis.

what's the money trail thing? I don't see it anywhere

Sanctions mainly hurt innocent civilians who are already living under shitty regimes. There's stories about Iranians not being able to get chemo drugs due to sanctions

Seems like maybe they are a decent deterrent, but not good as a punishment after the fact. Once a country is sanctioned, I think it's hard for many types of leadership to back down. It makes them look weak to their citizens and many of the sanctioned leaders/countries tend to be the types that thrive on the strongman look and need it to keep control at home.

Maybe part of the reason Iran worked is because they have a young relatively democratic-leaning population and lack of access to chemo drugs and stuff like that would cause unrest at home.

But someone like Kim or Putin may be less likely to respond positively to a sanction, even though we know Putin was taking heat at home over his people's frozen assets. They need the strong look too much to give in.

I do not know if Fetterman is going to run for US Senate one day but man he can't even do the job he has now. There was a tie vote on some e-scooter bill amendment just now. He is the tie breaking vote. Instead of breaking the tie he just left the rostrum and then the Republicans changed some of their votes to make the amendment fail. Hilariously incompetent.

The D nominee lost by 8 in 2018 and will be the nominee again. So it's not a sure thing she will make it to DC.

I hope she doesn't! Still probably the favorite though.

2018 was a really, really good Dem year. To be 8 points worse than that will take both the candidate being awful (seems like a check mark) and Trump being even worse off than 2018 (tbd).

For sure.

It's a pretty rural district. Outside of Denver, it is absolutely insane how rural Colorado is. Pueblo seems to becoming bluer not sure if it will be enough.

Tipton apparently was the co-chair of Trump's campaign in CO. Oops.
