In hundreds of highly classified phone calls with foreign heads of state, President Donald Trump was so consistently unprepared for discussion of serious issues, so often outplayed in his conversations with powerful leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and so abusive to leaders of America's principal allies, that the calls helped convince some senior US officials -- including his former secretaries of state and defense, two national security advisers and his longest-serving chief of staff -- that the President himself posed a danger to the national security of the United States, according to White House and intelligence officials intimately familiar with the contents of the conversations.

The calls caused former top Trump deputies -- including national security advisers H.R. McMaster and John Bolton, Defense Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and White House chief of staff John Kelly, as well as intelligence officials -- to conclude that the President was often "delusional," as two sources put it, in his dealings with foreign leaders.

(CNN)The intelligence that assessed there was an effort by a Russian military intelligence unit to pay the Taliban to kill US soldiers was included in one of President Donald Trump's daily briefings on intelligence matters sometime in the spring, according to a US official with direct knowledge of the latest information.

That assessment, the source said, was backed up by "several pieces of information" that supported the view that there was an effort by the Russian intelligence unit -- the GRU -- to pay bounties to kill US soldiers, including interrogation of Taliban detainees and electronic eavesdropping. The source said there was some other information that did not corroborate this view but said, nonetheless, '"This was a big deal. When it's about US troops you go after it 100%, with everything you got."

Trump is not known to fully or regularly read the President's Daily Brief, something that is well-known within the White House.

Cannot wait for the republicans to defend “how can you expect him to remember every briefing,” “the briefing has many pages and if it were noteworthy it would have been verbally mentioned,” or “it’s unbelievable that someone would leak this.”

Well shit, Fox news. Couldn't imagine being that fragile.

@JenGriffinFNC
Def Secretary Esper was at White House today to discuss US military force posture in Europe, including pulling troops out of Germany, which sources tell me was former Ambassador Rick Grenell's idea after Merkel rebuffed Pres Trump suggestion to host G-7 in person during pandemic.

I don't think having troops in Germany makes us more or less safe. There, I said it.

It doesn't. We're there with nukes to protect Western Europe as a part of NATO ... Even though the Germans don't want them there lol.

It does because we have a whole built infrastructure already in existence tailored to our needs. We've got air bases, listening posts, radar stations, a huge hospital, a gigantic bilateral training area, and more. In fact if memory serves AfriCom operates out of Stuttgart. Playing games like we're popping smoke and rolling out is stupid. And if you want to see a budgetary hit, try to replicate all of that in Eastern Europe. Not to mention that it won't be ready for 25 years.

Agreed. And if he drops out in the coming weeks, forget the polling (which he doesn’t care about), it will all but confirm that he is a Russian stooge.

It gets worse.

Top officials in the White House were aware in early 2019 of classified intelligence indicating Russia was secretly offering bounties to the Taliban for the deaths of Americans, a full year earlier than has been previously reported, according to U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the intelligence.

The assessment was included in at least one of President Donald Trump’s written daily intelligence briefings at the time, according to the officials. Then-national security adviser John Bolton also told colleagues he briefed Trump on the intelligence assessment in March 2019.

One person familiar with almost all the conversations with the leaders of Russia, Turkey, Canada, Australia and western Europe described the calls cumulatively as 'abominations' so grievous to US national security interests that if members of Congress heard from witnesses to the actual conversations or read the texts and contemporaneous notes, even many senior Republican members would no longer be able to retain confidence in the President.

White House and intelligence officials familiar with the voice-generated transcriptions and underlying documents agreed that their contents could be devastating to the President's standing with members of the Congress of both parties -- and the public -- if revealed in great detail.

Yeah, I dunno about the two statements above. Trump has done a bajillion things that should have "devastated his standing" with Congressional Republicans and the public. But they didn't, because 30-ish percent of the country is rabidly loyal to him and Congressional Republicans are scared that voters would reject them if they rejected Trump*. So I'm not brimming with confidence that this would be any different.

* - also, a lot of them don't seem to care as long as they get their tax cuts and conservative judges.

look I'm little Donald Trump, and I'm at Little Donald Trump's golf course to learn some lessons on how to be a bigger Donald Trump. We love our Confederate monuments, we are at war with the enemy who hate our country. Poor Lindsey Graham's legacy is going to be for every gigantic pile of s***. He's just like the ancient lamprey characterized by it's toothed, funnel-like sucking mouth to attach to larger predators for its own benefit. What a pathetic human.

I heard he went golfing with Trump again Friday or Saturday after badmouthing him a few times. I guess Trump set him straight and reminded Graham of the Kompromat he has.

Pence/Haley or vice versa is a real thing and may be the only way to keep Trump out of jail. He would then just need to beat the SDNY rap.

But I don't think Trump will go along with it. He's delusional and I really do think he's compromised. Maybe Putin has something on his daughter. I can't imagine what he'd have on Trump that Trump wouldn't just blow off like he does everything else. Unless he's having sex with little girls, big boys, or doing snuff films, I think he can survive anything else. He may even be able to survive the first one of those.
