NASCAR driver Ray Ciccarelli announced on his Facebook Wednesday that he intends on leaving the sport at the end of the season. His biggest issue appears to be a disagreement with the direction that things are heading. This decision comes in the wake of NASCAR allowing on-track personnel to kneel during the national anthem, Bubba Wallace driving a car that says Black Lives Matter on it and the sport banning the Confederate flag from races.

On NPR's 1A one of the guests was the mayor of Birmingham, AL. He mentioned that it is insane for Birmingham to have Confederate statues because the city did not even exist during the Civil War. It was founded in 1871.

You'd think police would welcome being relieved of jobs they aren't trained for like dealing with the homeless and domestic abuse and stuff.

And though I certainly think that's a good idea, I don't see how it helps protect people from police violence.

Is there a social worker you know who would be comfortable going to an active domestic dispute alone?

And I think in Philadelphia there are social workers that go with police (at least on occasion) when dealing with homeless people at least at 30th St Station.

domestic violence are some of the most dangerous calls. should have someone non police to deal with them AND with an officer for backup.

I don't think he meant acute DV calls but the repercussions, restraining orders, etc. They're not very well suited to resolve these.
