Protesters have defaced a statue of Philadelphia abolitionist Matthias Baldwin, dousing the statue with paint and spray-painting the word “colonizer” on the pedestal.
Baldwin argued for the right of African Americans to vote in Pennsylvania during the state’s 1837 Constitutional Convention, and helped establish a school for African American children where he paid teachers’ salaries for years.
“He hired blacks in his shops when that was not the norm,” Walsh said. “He was BLM [Black Lives Matter] before there was a slogan.”
Protesters also defaced Philadelphia’s Civil War Soldiers and Sailors monument with graffiti reading “BLM.” That monument’s inscription reads, “All who have labored today in behalf of the Union have wrought for the best interests of the country and the world not only for the present but for all future ages.”
“The irony of vandalizing a monument to those who died to end slavery is lost on the morons who don’t know their history,” Walsh said.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- You've likely driven by the Calvin C. Goode municipal building in downtown Phoenix. It’s named after a man who has a decades long connection to his community.
“It’s definitely something he's always instilled within his entire family and me included,” said Calvin’s grandson Josh. “That we have to be part of the communities in which we want to change.”
Calvin C. Goode
Calvin was a Phoenix city councilman for 22 years, a well-known activist in the African-American community who, among many other things, advocated for education along with his wife Georgie. Read more on their accomplishments here.
Following protests this week, graffiti was found outside of Goode's building. Josh Tweeted a photo of the damage to educate the public and direct his frustration into building up the community.
Phoenix man talks about his grandfather's legacy after building was defaced
Calvin’s grandson Josh

He wrote, "My grandfather Calvin Goode was a city councilman for a record 22 years and was one of many great black activist to improve upon the community. Of all buildings to deface...this was not the one. Y'all just roaming the streets with no history of your own city... #phoenixprotest."

That's totally cool, if you don't know, then no malicious intent there.
The people I'm taking about know that its offensive to at least some, if not most of that demographic, so they intentionally seek out permission or authorization from someone else to validate what they're saying. I don't know why its so important to them to be able to choose their own words regardless of how it impacts other people that they'd go out of their way to try to prove that someone shouldn't be offended or hurt by it? Like, what are they losing out on by not using certain words?
