Well fewer interactions between police and civilians decreases the opportunity for their to be police violence/brutality.

Violence is not just killing someone.

I get pushback like that when I ask people not to use words like c**nk and Or**ntal. They say things like this Asian or Chinese guy I know says its not an issue and he doesn't think its racist, so I'm going to keep saying it.

My response is, OK that's fine and your prerogative. I'm not going to stop you from saying that, but why do you feel the need to use those words? Do they convey a meaning that another equivalent word doesn't? Does it provide any additional benefit to use those words? If not, then why do you insist on using them and seek out validation and permission to use them?

i used to use the second word regularly, not thinking there was anything derogatory about it, until you informed me.

so now i don't use that word anymore.

Good summary of the Camden PD experiment here by a Courier Post reporter interviewed by WHYY:

Camden had a severe budget deficit and was not getting the state aid that it thought it was going to get. And in 2011, they were forced to lay off hundreds of city employees. In 2011, they laid off 163 police officers, which was almost half of the police force.

The following year, that led to a spike in homicides. The city had an all-time record of 67 homicides, which was just a horrific year. And in 2013, they formed a Camden County Police Department, which was county-run, rather than something that was based in the city. And they were able to get rid of a lot of officers and then rehire what they thought was the best of the best. The ones that they wanted to retain and also recruit from a much wider pool of applicants to get the police department back up to its former staffing level. But that took a lot of time.

That's totally cool, if you don't know, then no malicious intent there.

The people I'm taking about know that its offensive to at least some, if not most of that demographic, so they intentionally seek out permission or authorization from someone else to validate what they're saying. I don't know why its so important to them to be able to choose their own words regardless of how it impacts other people that they'd go out of their way to try to prove that someone shouldn't be offended or hurt by it? Like, what are they losing out on by not using certain words?

When I think of the military getting involved in coups or things of that nature, I usually think of part of the military joining the person doing the coup. It's often not the tippy top people, but a side group that uses the element of surprise to make things happen. I don't think the whole military is going to join Trump, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's trying to put together something with some subset of the military. I'm probably just being paranoid, but it seems like a time in history when a bit of paranoia is probably a healthy thing.

Oh, and I agree on Barr. He's the one that really scares me. He's the type of guy who could lead a guy like Trump to do some horrific things just because he's competent.
