John Cleese has joined in the online pile-on of Fox News, after it unwittingly quoted a line from Monty Python and the Holy Grail in a news report. The unfortunate incident was part of a report from Fox on the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone, or CHAZ, the protest group which is occupying part of Seattle, and is led by hip-hop artist Raz Simone.

Hoping to highlight a fracture in the group, news anchor Martha MacCallum quoted from a Reddit post, which read: “I didn't vote for Raz. I thought we were an autonomous collective. An anarcho-syndicalist commune at the least. We should take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week.” However, this was not dissent among the protestor's ranks, but a quote amusingly adapted from the 1975 movie, in which Graham Chapman's King Arthur encounters some local villagers.

You also have Laura Ingraham saying Dr. Fauci is part of the "medical deep state" and encouraging Trump and his minions to ignore anything he has to say. Fox News really has gone completely off the rails.

Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R- Butler) introduced House Resolution 915 on Tuesday, which includes five Articles of Impeachment against the Governor. According to Rep. Metcalfe, there are 24 co-sponsors of the resolution. Back on May 15th, Rep. Metcalfe said he planned to introduce a resolution to impeach Governor Wolf. Tuesday, that resolution was officially introduced. Rep. Metcalfe titled his announcement: "Metcalfe Files Five Articles of Impeachment to Remove Dictator Wolf."

Article One says Governor Wolf’s orders during the COVID-19 pandemic violated 4th, 5th, and 14th amendment rights.

Article Two states that Governor Wolf’s waiver program created through the Department of Labor and Industry was applied “in an arbitrary and capricious manner, leading to inconsistent and unjust results which determined the fate of the livelihoods of many citizens of this Commonwealth.” It goes on to say that Governor Wolf’s mandated business closure order devastated Pennsylvania’s economy, and he should be removed from office.

Article Three accused Governor Wolf of being at fault for not staffing and preparing the Department of Labor and Industry and the Office of Unemployment Compensation to handle the influx of unemployment benefits requests following the non-essential business closure order.

Article Four accuses the Governor of failing to protect residents of long-term care facilities and nursing homes from the COVID-19 virus. The article says even though Governor Wolf had plenty of time to prepare this vulnerable population for the virus, he failed to implement a plan to protect them.

Article Five accuses Governor Wolf of “withholding critical information” about COVID-19 to the public, press, and Legislature. This is in regards to state agencies not responding to Right-to-Know requests during the pandemic.

The language of all five Articles of Impeachment can be found here: http://www.repmetcalfe.com/Display/Site ... 59_001.pdf

Article two and maybe 4 have some truth in there I think, 2 more so than 4, but 3 is fucking laughable. Didn’t the republicans in the legislature reduce the funding to the dol?

The Civil War ended 1865. The Reconstruction Era was from 1865 - 1877.

Camp Beauregard - 1917
Fort Benning - 1918
Fort Bragg - 1918
Fort Gordon - 1917
Fort A.P. Hill - 1941
Fort Hood - 1942
Fort Lee - 1917
Fort Pickett - 1942
Fort Polk - 1941
Fort Rucker - 1942

The monuments are too vast to go into detail, but many of them were built after reconstruction ended.

Yes, times have changed, and symbols of white supremacy are no longer welcome. This shouldn't be as difficult as it is, since neither you or I are white supremacists. And yet... it's not even close to unanimous. The fact that these confederacy symbols were erected decades afterward should give us pause about what they are actually memorializing.

Technically, the first one never ended. There was no peace treaty or surrender. The revival might represent a US-China proxy this time. Who knows with this administration though.

Considering there was an armistice in 1918 and the Treaty of Versailles signed in 1919 it’s a bit misleading to say the Great War never “technically” ended. I would argue that it did end “technically” but many of the underlying issues were either not adequately addressed or addressed in such a punitive manner as to insure a Second World War 20 years later.

Wolf will be a hero compared to what is happening in other states with governors who aren't taking this seriously.

i am about trying to understand everyone's perspective, those who i agree with and those who i don't. i also try to understand the numerous complex variables that are involved. i am for change, but not having it done with the barrel of a gun or in the case today with the angry fist in the air, vandalism and looting. that is not the vehicle of change i want. for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

i want to build change and to do so, with a solid foundation, a lasting foundation. i want it to come through understanding and dialogue. i want change to occur through the appropriate channels of government. i want people to understand one another and many of the reasons behind why we do or have done certain things. unfortunately this reactionary, uncompromising, must win philosophy really has to stop. america is made up of many good people of all races, religions, orientations and so on. however there is this minority on both sides that want to demonize one another. that's what we as americans are not about, i am not. unfortunately we have given some of these folks the largest microphone and needs to be taken away, but it can't. hopefully the good majority know this and choose to filter this out. hopefully we can all sit down together and talk and try to understand one another and each one's perspective and move forward for the good of all. i really think that's all that most people want.

I grew up in Richmond, home to the infamous Monument Avenue (a beautiful street, by the way, except for those confederate war statues). The lore was that the men who died faced south on their way home. The men who lived faced defiantly north.

I also learned all about the War of Northern Aggression. And that it wasn't about slavery, it was about states' rights. Not mentioned was that the right the states wanted to preserve was slavery.

And best I could tell, my history teachers were politically liberal.

Biggest question I'd have around removal of names / monuments is the cost to do so and what else could be accomplished with that money.

I get the whole symbolism thing but if there are actual programs, etc. that could be better funded to help people with that money, it's an easy choice IMO.

Example - per Kenney's admin (I know, I know) the cost for the Rizzo statue removal would have been $100,000 https://whyy.org/articles/timeline-for- ... ack-again/

I understand that idea. In a long view I disagree. If you let the symbols stand members of every generation who feel aggrieved will latch onto the hate for which they stand.

I'm all for tearing them down and not wasting resources replacing them.
