Zero.

Yeah unfortunately I think this question is answering itself in South Philly this week. The Trump base is fueled by feeling slighted, they’ll use this as motivation.

It's not that it's a hot take, it's just kinda missing the point. If the statue was so inoffensive that people rather spend the money elsewhere and leave it up, we wouldn't be having the conversation. If you continue to put off spending the money on removing the statue, it's just going to stay there until you decide to actually do it. It's knowing you have to rip the band-aid off at some point, but continuing to put it off because it's going to hurt. You only have to rip it off once to get the result you're looking for.

They believe whatever Trump tells them to believe (if they didn’t already) and then have it drummed into their heads over and over by Faux News. There’s really not any critical thinking going on.

Teachers spending their own money for supplies, but the police force has military gear. Keep the citizens uninformed and uneducated, but make sure we have tanks locally to keep them in line.

This is nothing. Wait until the water dries up coming off the himalayas (question of when, not if) and 1/4 to 1/3 of the people in the world don't have enough water. And we don't have the energy for large scale desalination without some kind of sea change in how we generate energy.

Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R- Butler) introduced House Resolution 915 on Tuesday, which includes five Articles of Impeachment against the Governor. According to Rep. Metcalfe, there are 24 co-sponsors of the resolution. Back on May 15th, Rep. Metcalfe said he planned to introduce a resolution to impeach Governor Wolf. Tuesday, that resolution was officially introduced. Rep. Metcalfe titled his announcement: "Metcalfe Files Five Articles of Impeachment to Remove Dictator Wolf."

Article One says Governor Wolf’s orders during the COVID-19 pandemic violated 4th, 5th, and 14th amendment rights.

Article Two states that Governor Wolf’s waiver program created through the Department of Labor and Industry was applied “in an arbitrary and capricious manner, leading to inconsistent and unjust results which determined the fate of the livelihoods of many citizens of this Commonwealth.” It goes on to say that Governor Wolf’s mandated business closure order devastated Pennsylvania’s economy, and he should be removed from office.

Article Three accused Governor Wolf of being at fault for not staffing and preparing the Department of Labor and Industry and the Office of Unemployment Compensation to handle the influx of unemployment benefits requests following the non-essential business closure order.

Article Four accuses the Governor of failing to protect residents of long-term care facilities and nursing homes from the COVID-19 virus. The article says even though Governor Wolf had plenty of time to prepare this vulnerable population for the virus, he failed to implement a plan to protect them.

Article Five accuses Governor Wolf of “withholding critical information” about COVID-19 to the public, press, and Legislature. This is in regards to state agencies not responding to Right-to-Know requests during the pandemic.

The language of all five Articles of Impeachment can be found here: http://www.repmetcalfe.com/Display/Site ... 59_001.pdf

Article two and maybe 4 have some truth in there I think, 2 more so than 4, but 3 is fucking laughable. Didn’t the republicans in the legislature reduce the funding to the dol?

So if he's voted out, will they have an election before the fall? If so, how would that affect voting in November? I can imagine a GOP governor would make it difficult to vote in minority areas since that's what other GOP governors seem to be doing. We're an important state in the prez election and I'm concerned an impeachment would hurt dems a good bit in PA, not because people won't like Wolf and dems, but because a possible GOP replacement would surely inject himself/herself into the prez election.

Trump's niece is also publishing a book about the disfunction of the Trump family and horrors of their household. She's a clinical psychologist. I won't buy it and put a penny in the hands of another Trump, but I hope it lays bare his life so people can see who he is. I would normally think it's slimy, but fuck him.

That sure seems like grounds for a lawsuit. Or at least good evidence to use in a lawsuit against the administration.

pacino wrote:I much prefer Trump's open contempt response to McConell's complete BS and lie response to a vote on DC Statehood:

While the bill already has enough Democratic cosponsors to pass the House, it is expected to go nowhere in the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has expressed staunch opposition to D.C. statehood and even compared it to “full bore socialism” in an interview last year.

President Donald Trump has also dismissed the idea, saying Republicans would be “very, very stupid” to grant D.C. statehood because of the District’s overwhelmingly Democratic leanings.

“So we can have two more Democratic — Democrat senators and five more congressmen? No thank you. That’ll never happen,” Trump told the New York Post last month.

The House has considered D.C. statehood before, with a failed floor vote in 1993. Since then, there have been occasional rumblings about making the District the 51st state but no concrete action until Democrats took back the House and held the chamber’s first hearing on the issue in more than 25 years in September.

at least tell me the real reason you oppose it, which Trump did.

If dems win the Senate, they should try to add both DC and Puerto Rico, then add two more justices to the SCOTUS. Both have been done before (adding states and adding justices). It's a little dirty, but it's the kind of dirty that increases democracy, which is much better than the dirty the GOP plays. The latest events in DC underscore the need for statehood there and the incident with the hurricane in Puerto Rico underscores the need there.

I get the whole symbolism thing but if there are actual programs, etc. that could be better funded to help people with that money, it's an easy choice IMO.

Example - per Kenney's admin (I know, I know) the cost for the Rizzo statue removal would have been $100,000 https://whyy.org/articles/timeline-for- ... ack-again/

if there was a statue of Hitler in South Philadelphia right now, I don't think anyone rational would say "well what does it cost to take it down"

I think a company would step up and do it for free, if the city let them.

Yeh, the money is a non-issue. Tons of companies would love the good publicity. And if they don't, plenty of non-profits and private citizens will step up.

The whole thing with the statues is removing them instead of relocating. Relocation is more costly and only a half measure.

Good info about where these monuments came from And the purpose behind them. Including the change from the reality of why the war was fought to protect in the legacy of southern leaders who are not assassinated by walking back slavery and going with states rights.

Donald Trump is 'looking to sue his niece Mary' over her tell-all book after 'she signed an NDA in 2001 banning her from talking about her relationship with the president'

Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist, will say that the president, despite being his father's favorite son, 'dismissed and derided him' when he began to suffer from Alzheimer's.

It must be fun to be a clinical psychologist and have Donald in you DNA.

I wonder what Melania and Baron's NDAs look like.
