I haven’t met that subset yet yet. Just saying if we’re saying this is largely a psychologically move it’s going to have negative effects too

Keep your eyes on Centre County. Would bet any PSU student with an active apartment lease will be back that weekend, many coming from red areas in PA, NJ, and NY. Hope Mount Nittany Medical Center is prepping.

It's going to help some smaller businesses as well. I know the big is childcare and some smaller retail businesses can now open.

What about going to yellow will make them come back? Couldn't they already be there hanging out with friends if they wanted to?

But nobody can work so who needs childcare besides essentials, who can already access that? What other significant amount of small businesses will be helped?

Going yellow is a great idea if data justified. Still a lot of risk in it. The backlash and resistance if you need to reverse will be immense and the psychological impact on individuals and the economy will be even greater.

Of course, but perception is powerful.

My understanding is some childcare places were not open and I also believe there are people that still have to work that didn't have access to childcare. I know nurses, doctors, police and others had access but didn't think others that are working had access to it

Yeah I mean if I was a a college age student I would check to see if the bars were open and once I saw that they weren't then I probably wouldn't go.

I can speak from experience that State College is boring as sin without any nightlife or students as a college-aged student.

I can’t believe there are a significant amount of non essential needing daycare, or at least a significant enough amount that be frugal for a daycare to open

The bars aren't open. If kids come back and have parties, they'll mostly be interacting with the least at-risk population in the country. I think the riskiest part is if they just decide to come up for a weekend, party, and then go home and interact with the at-risk people in their families.

Sure but why would you not already be apartment partying if that is what you wanted to do? I guess going yellow may be a trigger to leave but some may have left after day 30 or whenever they got sick of it.

I mean, I'm not 21 anymore, but even though I'm in a low-risk county and a low-risk age group my friends and I haven't been hanging out

Also, college kids come from all over the state. They might not have places TO party and people to party with

Again - perception. "Oh cool things are clearing up, I miss my friends, let's go back" ---> "hey mom/dad, since it's Yellow now we're all gonna go back"

Yeah, that's my point - most should understand and stay home, but I could see kids wanting to get away from home and dick around with their friends. Probably a lot of dizzy bat.

I can say with complete certainty that college me (an idiot, as many of us were at that age) would be heading back up there Friday, May 8 to play golf (courses now open) or video games during the day and drink with my roommates / friends at our apartment or someone's house at night. Would also guess the, uh, drought is probably becoming very real as well.

There's been a really apparent and long overdue improvement in NJ's testing capacity as well as a drop in those coming back positive. Reported almost 9k new tests today, and 2538 positives. So still horrendous compared to the rest of the country, but so much better even compared to last week.
