Maybe, but anecdotally it seems like most college-aged kids are home right now. Could be wrong.

Obviously tons of factors can go into this, including paperwork delays and increased testing, but Georgia posted over 1000 new cases of coronavirus today, their highest total in about two weeks.

Shelter in place orders end for most people today, and of course many other restrictions were lifted over the past week.

Shelter in place orders remain in effect for those 65 and over, along with those with certain health conditions, including obesity.

wonder how many healthy 65 year olds will break out the Grecian formula and try to pass? Can imagine them being surrounded by packs like in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, or suddenly slipping up when they try to get their bus fare discount.

2 members of my union have now passed away due to COVID19. Same workplace. They're both from Delaware County.

Feel bad bumping this from the middle of the page. If it gets second paged does that mean we have nothing more to worry about?

But in the numbers game, due largely to a big drop in NY reported deaths, below 300, yesterday New Jersey reported the highest number of deaths in the nation. OTOH,after going 1-2 in new cases for ages, NY stayed at #1 , but NJ dropped to #3, behind Illinois.

Andy Slavitt nightly thread was pretty telling imo. We could and should start ramping up testing infrastructure, but it requires gov't oversight and there is no profit motive for private companies to do it. Unfortunately this is something where Trump really does have all the leverage.

Gov. Reeves reverses on reopening businesses after numbers increase in MS. Wonder where they'd be if he resisted less in the beginning.

This is impossible. I've been told the private sector will rise to any challenge.

Deaths higher this week than last, but new cases down by like 33%. Still a lot of them. It's not great.

Not sure how the question applies to my post. If you mean since "reopening" I've not really looked into it since it's probably a bit too early. I believe yesterday was their 3rd highest total of new positives and the highest in over 2 weeks. Too early to draw any conclusion but that's not a great early sign. Might also help if they started to take testing seriously.

Yeah, as you say, it's too early to tell, although they had never really had a actual decline before opening things up so I'm not even sure you'll see a rebound as much as a continuation. Today was a lower case number than yesterday, but only one other day of the last nine has been higher. But their health department has always been way behind or erratic in reporting cases and deaths. Which made it laughable that the governor confidently spoke about "contact tracing" when, as you say, they've been slow to even roll out testing for those who are ill or at risk.

You never know how much to accept any country's numbers (even our own), but Russia's are interesting. By the figures submitted, they're apparently testing quite a few more asymptomatic people, having conducted close to 4 million tests and registered 124,000 case of COVID-19, or about a 3% positive rate (compared to say, over 16% in the US). Of these, only 1222 have died, or just under 1%. Seemingly somewhat good news for them, however they are estimating that about 2% of Moscow's population (or around 250,000) have the disease, not to mention elsewhere. Given that it seems to have been a later arrival in Russia than elsewhere in Europe, you would expect the death rate to rise in the coming weeks, and the increase in cases hasn't slowed.

they've taken strong isolation measures, at least until May 12. It will be interesting to see how their numbers shape up, given the widespread testing of the population.

Can someone please ELI5 the whole "China created this in a lab" thing, as now our Secretary of State is suggesting that "strong evidence" points to? Is this presumed to be a "Stranger Things" situation where experimentation goes wrong, or is there some incentive China would have to do ths..?

Double cover for Trump and the GOP. China's fault not theirs. The economy's bad since they have no choice but to punish China thru trade sanctions.

Good news but a deceiving headline, imo.

A total of 277 patients in the country were believed to have fallen ill for a second time, as had patients in China and Japan.

This prompted concerns that the virus could be mutating so quickly that people were not necessarily immune to catching it again.

However, genetic analyses of the virus have not found any substantial changes which would effectively disguise it from the immune system.

The only conclusion is about mutation rate of the virus. Nothing about actual immune response.

Like I said before, I am not sure we have ever seen a coronavirus where we didn't gain immunity for some period of time, and all indications are that is the case with this one as well.

Every article I have seen that says someone got it twice had a follow up to show they actually didn't, whether it was failed testing or something else.
