Asked how to protect workers in meat plants, Trump says they'll have a report this afternoon: "We're gonna have good form of protection. Through quarantine, when we find somebody that's not - we're gonna be - they're gonna be very careful. They are."

“We’re on the other side of the medical aspect of this,” Kushner said in an interview with Fox News. “We’ve achieved all the different milestones that are needed. The federal government rose to the challenge, and this is a great success story.”
Completely and utterly wrong and, especially, out of touch. I wonder if the families of the deceased consider the federal government's response a "success".

It’s an election year, is this at all surprising?

Idk, the dire predictions used to sell the need for the extreme measures that have been taken have made the bed for this claim. The people who wanted extreme social distancing got it on the notion that if you don't do it, 1.5M - 2M people could die. Which, by the way, I totally believe might well have been the case. But by setting the bar that high, if deaths come in under 100,000 before, say, it's August and people have basically moved on, which I expect now they will, it lays the foundation for this claim by Kushner/the Trump administration.
It really is a no-win for Dems looking to turn it in to one because you are arguing against a hypothetical, and since you've (correctly) used the hypothetical worst-case to underscore the need for the extreme measures, Trump can and will claim credit for steering well clear of the worst case scenario that Dems (properly) floated.
It's heads he wins tails we lose.

We are going to hit 100,000 before the end of May.

He sounded today like they’d be willing to go to negative rate targets. Probably after horrendous 2Q numbers come out
