@BillKristol

If Biden can bring Amy and Pete together tonight, he can bring the country together in November.

I don't get the Pete hate.

Seemed like a smart and sincere and articulate guy. He'd be my top choice if I thought he was electable in the general.

Judging a President on whether or not he’s amazing at rallies and speeches when we have President Trump... Biden does not sound great at times, but I honestly cannot wait to get back to the days when our President isn’t pontificating 24/7.

I think he is extremely inauthentic. Made in a lab of surveys and focus groups. And I am predisposed to like him, to want him to win, based on his background.

Of course he can win the general

I mean he can, but he is not strong. The establishment on either side doesn't have the best track record in these kind of things.

Well, from 2016, we already know that nothing actually matters. But if he's saying stupid stuff in a debate against Trump, that would not be good. I think he's likely to do so, and Trump will unironically seize on it as him being past his prime and unfit for office.

That is the problem when all of the candidates for office are 75+. It's a sensitive issue, an uncomfortable issue, but something that could potentially effect voters' willingness to back a candidate. Sanders and Warren have not had similar stumbles, as far as I am aware.

Edit: I'm not talking about saying Senate instead of President. I'm talking about answers to debate questions that make no sense, sentences that trail off into nothing, and transitions that occur randomly. It may be part of the reason that his support among young people is less than his support among the elderly.

Debate concerns are one thing. Random youtube/twitter clips are another.

He's been fine enough in the latest debates that if he does that in the general he'll look like a goddamn genius against Trump.

Right, they all have weaknesses the GOP will try to attack.

I'm still hoping for Warren, but I think any non-Sanders candidacy might be a problem when it comes to turnout. I think the VP choice should be Harris or Abrams. Warren for Head of Health and Human Services.

It really is crazy, if you think about the people you know that are 70+ and to think of them making high level decisions that impact the world just seems crazy. Trump will be 74 this year, Warren 71, Bernie 79, Biden 78, Bloomberg 78

Bernie/Biden/Bloomberg will be 80+ in the next 2 years.

They obviously are highly functioning for their age group but it is just odd to me to think someone my grand parents age could be running the country for 4+ years.

I'm not sure Biden is highly functioning. As I've stated on here before, as someone who has followed his career closely, there's no doubt in my mind he had a medical issue in the last 2 years. It's not a matter of just losing his fastball either.

He’s not perfect by any means, but there is literally zero evidence that Bernie drives any meaningful additional turnout. He has not done that in 4 primaries so far and there is no reason to think he would do it in the 6 states that matter. That’s fools gold man. The base that beats Trump is not young progressives, it’s African Americans and suburban women

Truer words were never spoken. When I teach Ursula LeGuin’s stark short story “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” I always make sure that students see that this is what that story is all about - and it is so effective because it personalizes the whole thing.

Also, Augustus, may I borrow this?
