The right thing - decorum wise - is for Obama to stay on the sidelines then campaign hard for the nominee.

But these are not normal times. Sanders is Trump's best chance, and it would be unwise to let Sanders help Trump AGAIN. Obama has the cred to change things here.

What Obama SHOULD also be doing is - behind the scenes - persuading Bloomberg to drop out.

My first job was $3.15/hr as a janitor at a bowling alley. Had to clean toilets and about one million cigarette butts per day. There was a sea of ashtrays to clean.

I'd keep it where it is, but I'd do something at the federal government level that mirrors the EIC. For all persons over age 21, federal tax dollars will be used to get you to a net (indexed for inflation) wage of $15/hr.

This is in keeping with programs that, while far from perfect, are effective in helping needy Americans - public housing, Medicaid, food stamps. Help for those who need it, not a blanket program that brings in everybody.

I'd much rather target subsidies to those that truly need it rather than paying suburban teens an above-market rate for summer jobs, or, even worse, paying everybody including Bill Gates and Mike Bloomberg $1000 a month.

Why would any business pay anybody over $7.25 then, if the government is just gonna make up the rest anyway?

Israeli polls close for election #3 in the past 11 months at 3 PM our time. I think expectations are no one is going to be able to form a government again.

You'd think they'd get sick of that at some point.

Anecdotal, but an interesting look into a former thriving manufacturing city in Colorado.

https://www.npr.org/2020/03/02/80984334 ... rm=nprnews

Perko, the steelworkers union president, sympathizes with people working low-wage service jobs.

"When I hear someone say, that job at McDonalds, they don't deserve to make even $12 an hour because they should pick themselves up by their bootstraps and go do something else — those people work harder than I do," Perko said. "I'll be the first to admit it. They deserve to be paid for their labor."

That sounds like something a Bernie Sanders supporter would say. That's because he is.

Perko used to like Joe Biden, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren.

"They're all people that either have a blue-collar background or have at least a plan for the working class," he said. "I cannot get behind the parts of the Democratic party that feel like corporate America."

How about if you can't afford to pay your workers a living wage, commensurate with broader profitability and productivity trends in the U.S. over the last few decades, you go out of business?

Or are they *AM radio voice* entitled to it

I heard that interview with Mr. Perko. I would agree that working in a restaurant is super hard work. Your shift is all time on your feet, it is hot, stressful, etc. In the kitchen it can come with varied dangers as well. You work odd shifts ("the life style") and the pay is generally awfully basic. Bus people and waiters got something terrible that sort of covered the taxes ( a buck or two), and tips were to bridge the gap. Busboy tips were not great even in a really nice place. That +7 I mentioned was working as a line cook in a pretty nice place.

I've never work in a steel plant, but there seem to be dangers there which are above and beyond what I experienced in kitchens.

Do we believe he dislikes Klobuchar as much as it appears? She's the only other one that might get his endorsement. Has to be Biden, and you'd think Biden would be motivated to get it by Tuesday. I wonder if he's trying to get a VP commitment from Biden.

I think there is a 95 percent chance that Biden's VP choice is an African American woman and a 99% chance its a woman. Pete just needs something to keep his profile up since he really does not have much chance at Statewide Indiana office. Right now I suspect he's just weighing whether there would be political consequences of endorsing Biden if Sanders ends up winning.

a Biden/Pete ticket would not be a good ticket.

Look, Pete's run was so incredibly self serving. We are trying to beat Donald Trump and he is trying to promote himself. It is so grossly cynical and disingenuous. He literally copied Obama's speeches and obviously attempting to mimmick his speech patterns. I am glad he is gone.

His initial townhall on CNN was very good, that and an appearance on The View started getting him buzz. He also had deep pocket backing too, his campaign was more traditional than Bernie’s in funding.

Basically the moderates are saying if Bernie is the nominee it is Bloomberg’s fault.

He'll gain ground there but it's concerning most other places.

Bloomberg might have been such an absolute disaster that he hurt himself enough that with these drop outs, Biden does really well and contested convention here we come.

Also I wonder if the instant endorsement was a final poke in the eye of Buttigieg since he still hasn’t formally endorsed Biden.
