Michael Bloomberg does not have a base, he just has billions of dollars.

No way of telling because Lt. Col. Spray Tan refuses to release his tax returns. I think it is safe to assume that Bloomberg could buy Trump several times over.

For someone so smart and who makes his living with facts and analysis like you do I find that statement incomprehensible.

Bloomberg is very smart, super accomplished, highly competent and has perhaps the best chance among all Dem candidates to defeat the greatest threat to our republic since the Civil War. That’s way, way more than sufficient reason.

You don’t have to like him — even a little bit. As I’ve said before I didn’t vote for him when I had the chance and he’s not my first choice now, but if you or anyone else really can’t figure out why he’s running you are letting your emotion obscure your intellect.

What makes you say Bloomberg has the best chance to beat Trump? His money? He’s not shameless like Trump, so he will probably struggle with his history with policing/stop and frisk.

If anyone can cause the left to sit at home on election day, it's probably Bloomberg.

Quinnipiac poll Feb 5-9 released yesterday has Bloomberg with greatest margin of victory over Trump. Also, I said “perhaps” and my post was about understanding why he’s running.

Anyone on the left who does sit home is a petulant idiot who deserves 4 more years of Trump.

Not sure, that is shaping up to be a tight race. "The left" is a big tent. Then again, what kept the Iowans at home?

BTW: Bloomberg is a terrible candidate in my book.

Not saying it's right but it may be true. And I mean the far left of course.

I think here is what JH was saying and what I was getting at the other day when I thanked him on behalf of Bernie

Bernie only ran 1% behind that and has higher national poll numbers while actually running a campaign against people.

I know your response was to JH not knowing why he ran, and I didn’t disagree with your analysis. I do disagree with him having perhaps the best chance to win. I will buy more into Bloomberg’s chances if he doesn’t take a big hit from stop and frisk and his history coming back to the fore front.

Iowa is moving more and more to the right and the caucus is an outdated system that discourages undecided people to show up. If you’re not passionate or at least sure in your choice, why bother going to a local school gym to be herded?

I can completely agree that the iowa caucus is a dated joke. The state needs it for it's economy. Some state like PA should just muscle then out. The state government could just put it on the calendar as it's official primary and tell both parties it is what it is, and it's not negotiable.

The Joe show is pretty bad. At least he has temporarily stopped telling people to vote for someone else. That was a dumb idea.

It’s only a matter of time until Joe literally yells at someone: “Get off my lawn!”

Of that 6%, some are those who are "concerned" about his behavior but will vote for him anyway, and others are those who will skip the presidential election or vote third party, but never vote for a Democrat. Please forget about these people. This is the bizarre 2004 mentality that still infects this political party. It leads you to things like picking Tim Kaine as a running mate and not campaigning in Wisconsin.

Groups the Democrats should actually be targeting:
-2 time Obama voters who broke for Trump
-African American and young voters who stayed home in 2016

This is a bit of a strawman. Dems shouldn't focus on winning over Republicans as a whole per se, but picking Trump's best poll among Republicans to illustrate outreach to the center right is useless is not gonna do a lot for your point.

People who voted Romney/Clinton or Romney/Johnson and Dem in the midterms or sat out the midterms are a group Democrats should care about. And these are not going to be people who like Bernie. These are the people who flipped to Dems in suburban districts in Michigan and Georgia and Pennsylvania and a governor's race in Wisconsin and won a Senate seat in Arizona. Not saying if you think the policy outcomes from nominating Bernie are that much better than those if you nominate Biden that it's not worth the risk. But it's a real group.

I 100% wanted Hillary to win in 2016 and almost literally puked when the returns started rolling in. I am personally meaningless as I live in DC and will be voting 3rd party regardless, but I'd prefer Biden/Buttiegieg/Klobuchar/Bloomberg as president to Trump, but would pretty fucking easily root for Trump over Sanders. I'm not going to pretend I'm a useful part of the American electorate since I hate everyone, but I do think Bernie would run behind Biden or Klobuchar in Chester County or Oakland County and it might make a difference.

What will be will be, but people talking up Sanders' electability case in a general election are for the most part supporting him in the primary and making post hoc excuses for doing so.

I think Sanders is likable and authentic. I think he'll do well with low information voters, especially as he has more opportunities to explain his social support plans against Trump's plans to cut these programs.
