"Friday Night Massacre" happening.

Republicans completely silent.

Every GOP congressperson is a complicit piece of garbage. (Except, Mitt, but he's not getting any "real courage" awards from me.)

Pete's reply to having billionaires finding his campaign is brutal.

Once again I found myself watching/reading post-debate punditry and wondering if they watched the same thing I did. So much praise for Warren/Buttigieg/Sanders and I thought they were all fairly weak. Buttigieg was terrible on several topics. The billionaires bit was mentioned above but he was absolutely savaged on the South Bend race issue. Sanders took a major hit on his guns voting record and really did not have any substantive moment that I can remember. Same for Warren, though she had a couple of moments.

I thought the clear winner of the night was Klobucher. I can't recall any damage that she took (probably due to her underdog status) but she inflicted some (especially on Buttigieg) and did a fantastic job of demonstrating that she can get the job done. Despite what the pros think, I thought Biden was excellent also. He came off a bit "loud" at times and he took minor damage on his Iraq vote (though I thought his "I made a mistake, I trusted Bush" line was deft) but he was strong in his responses and was able to say "not only can I do it, I HAVE done it" a lot. I do take away points for trying to lower NH expectations immediately upon speaking.

I am truly having a tough time understanding why he gets so much criticism for "living in the past", so to speak. He has a long and pretty successful resume (including, in some ways, actually doing the job as Obama's VP) and is vying for the most powerful job in the world (at least it was until three years ago). Resumes are important, which is why moderators ask questions about past votes, past quotes, etc. People try to hit Buttigieg for his lack of experience yet then hit Biden for touting his.

At best, I am an rookie ball politics watcher and I will probably embarrass myself but this is how I saw it last night:

1. Klobuchar

2. Biden

3. Warren
4. Sanders
5. Buttigieg

6. Steyer
7. Yang

I think Pete is a little to polished for me. Too much politispeak. Also he doesn't create enough excitement on the Left and the Middle/Right will not vote for a gay candidate.

Although Biden is probably still the favorite think Bernie will be right there with him. In 2016 I was a fervent Bernie fan and was very disappointed Warren didn't run. And although I've drifted more towards the center over the past 4 years I think Sanders was the most impressive candidate on the stage Friday night. None of the others really struck me as "Presidential" (oh except Andrew Wang).

A Sanders/Klobuchar ticket would work for me. However, IMO Bloomberg is the best chance the Democrats have to beat Trump in a general election.

So Andy Dinniman who is a state senator here in Chester County abruptly decided he was not going to run again (after saying he was). He tapped one of his staffers to run, Don Vyzamal. A State Rep, Carolyn Comitta, is also going to be go for it. And there was already a guy running, Kyle Boyer, who is on TE School Board.

The district covers a lot of southern Chester Co, Coatesville, Downingtown, West Chester, and then up to Phoenixville.

Both Carolyn and Don would be solid I believe. We have until April but anyone in State Senator District 19 that is a registered Dem, I'd encourage you to vote for Carolyn.

Kyle is a no because the church he pastors is pretty anti LGBTQ.

I'll post about the race again as the primary gets closer. But it has been a wild two days because of this sudden retirement announcement.

The political theorist Hannah Arendt once wrote that the most successful totalitarian leaders of the 20th century instilled in their followers “a mixture of gullibility and cynicism.” When they were lied to, they chose to believe it. When a lie was debunked, they claimed they’d known all along—and would then “admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness.” Over time, Arendt wrote, the onslaught of propaganda conditioned people to “believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and that nothing was true.”

So Trump is proposing a ~$750B cut to Medicare in an election year, eh?

Maybe he’s dumber than I thought.

Which is hard to imagine.

Damn that’s a shame. Dinniman is really popular out here with pretty much everyone, regardless of political affiliation. He’s super visible in the community and really does try to do what is best for his constituents. I’ve worked with his office on a personal matter and, while it was no big deal, they were really professional and attentive and he personally followed up with a phone call to make sure it was taken care of. Tons of respect for him, hope he enjoys retirement, he’s definitely earned it.
