Politics: What’s so Super about Tuesday?

Mark Murray @mmurraypolitics
Most unpopular qualities for a prez candidate in the new NBC/WSJ poll (combined reservations + very uncomfortable):

Socialist: 67%
Heart attack in past year: 57%
75+: 53%
Self-funder: 41%
Under 40: 40%
Gay/lesbian: 27%
Woman: 14%

Maybe he survives a couple billion dropped on his head. And maybe nothing matters. But if things matter, Bernie might have problems

You answered your own question here, no? The question remains - how many from either democrat party would vote for the other?

The first time this happened in 2016, the answer was "not enough" but there still seemed to be a "lol Trump could never be PRESIDENT" feeling. Obviously this shifts in 2020 to "vote for this candidate or Trump remains President" which I think will spark the Social Democrats to (grudgingly) vote for the Republican Democrat (Bloomberg, I guess).

The risk I see from the Social Democrat candidate winning is enough Republican Democrats say "eh, I'd rather status quo than massive upheaval" that they either don't turn out at all, or actually vote for Trump.

In that poll Sanders led the field, Sanders 50%, Trump 46% in national polls, and Sanders 49%, Trump 48% in Hypothetical matchups for just the states of AZ, CO, FL, ME, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, PA, WI (combined).

All from the same tweet thread you took your info from. So even if he has issues, he’s still in first and still looking good against Trump in battleground states. Of course these numbers mean squat until it’s 1v1 and the billions are dropped like you said.

Which is your right, but it's a vote for Trump, is it not?

(For reference, since I don't frequent this thread often - I am independent but have voted Dem so far in the Presidential elections I've been eligible for - which I guess puts me sort of in the Republican Democrat party referenced earlier?)

For those saying they'll sit out rather than vote Bloomberg, I respect the decision (not sure what I would do), but please come out and vote down ballot if that does end up happening. 2020 is hugely important for reapportionment, redistricting, gerrymandering, etc. So much of the horror show of the past 10 years is directly attributable to the Republican wave of 2010.

If for no other reason than protecting RBG's seat, I hope you reconsider if it ends up being Bloomberg vs. Trump. The stakes are far too high to sit this one out. At least Bloomberg is competent.

Who's to say he nominates anyone that I would approve of? He runs counter to just about everything except he's been able to cover it all up with positive pr with all the money he has

Oh, I am fairly certain it would be superior to the Heritage Foundation’s selection to overturn Roe v. Wade and ensure a conservative majority in the SC for the rest of your life.

I amended your post slightly.

Personally, I would vote for a random person, via national lottery, over the current President.

As would I!

It’s like failing to take the opportunity to vote against Hitler because the alternative was Reagan-lite. Cannot wrap my brain around that mindset.

Yeah, although with questions like that you get people substituting actual candidates for the characteristic group, and even though the question tells you not to think about specific candidates, it can be a bit like telling people not to think about the pink elephant. Like in four years if a President Warren or Klobuchar is running for re-election against Nikki Haley, I'd guess that number would be quite low. As it is, some will hear the question and interpret it as how comfortable/uncomfortable would you be to vote for Elizabeth Warren.

This is so fucking dismissive and insulting.

Those away from the extremes might see it more like Republicans and Democrats bookended by bat-shit-crazy, echo chamber ultra-conservatives (esp. Trumpers) and bat-shit-crazy, echo chamber ultra-liberals (esp. Bernie Bros./Sanders Sisters).
