Right, which is why it is idiotic of him and his followers to embrace the "socialist" label. It's alienating, and it's inaccurate.

Pretty good hammer drop by Joe Biden.

I mean he believes in climate change and gun control, so he is. But I appreciate how vomit inducing it would be if he buys the nomination.

Anyway with Biden putting out a decent hit ad, and the hopeful evisceration tonight, we won’t have to worry about

Good point, a double hit as he now leads the youth vote based on that drop.

He's gonna crumble under scrutiny and one day we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny, I just wish that he spent his half a bil helping actual democrats get elected.

Have to agree with this taek. When he ran four years ago, Sanders was careful to make and repeat the distinction. He should now as well.

I see tonight's debate as a total do or die moment for Warren's campaign. She is on life support but has a huge opportunity tonight to go hard after Bloomberg. Bloomberg plays into everything she is running against. She needs a big moment or she's done.

ya know maybe bloomberg now isn't a bad thing. maybe everyone will direct their criticism at him instead of someone viable

Kind of depends on who is criticizing though, no? If it's the Social Democrats (as we're calling them here), does that just (further) alienate the Republican Democrats / moderate / center / whatever?

Trump offered Assange a pardon if he claimed Russians didn't hack into DNC servers. His emissary on this mission? None other than Dana Rohrabacher.

Never ceases to amaze me how brazenly treasonous these bastards have been.

Trump won the GOP primary for a number of reasons, not the least of which was we all underestimated the power of the supposed fringe elements of the party. He also was elected due to their complete reliance on winner take all primaries.

If the democrats did primaries the same way the GOP did, Bernie would have this thing locked up by Super Tuesday.

The other important thing about the social democrat/socialist issue is that in isolation, much of the left agenda is politically popular. To an extent, it does depend on the wording, but increasing the minimum wage for example polls well. (And it isn't just polls--even here in deep red low wage Arkansas a gradual increase in the minimum wage to what is now $10 and will go to $11 next year won in a referendum overwhelmingly.) Single payer polls well, and has polled well since the early 90s. (One of the best books on public opinion makes the argument that single payer would have been more successful with the public than the Clinton plan that failed.)

I know rich suburban people and their media acolytes who control much of the public discourse aren't enthusiastic about that agenda I guess because they'd have to pay more to get their lawns done and their nanny might charge more too.

I think stereotyping groups of people no matter which group is being stereotyped is both unhelpful and demeaning.
