This was said about Trump until, well, he was elected.
If the democrats did primaries the same way the GOP did, Bernie would have this thing locked up by Super Tuesday.
I think it's just apples to oranges here. Now expecting Trump to lose because he's morally worse than Bernie this time around would be foolish. The GOP primary base is just so different than the Dem base, that I don't think the lessons apply.PSUsarge wrote:JUburton wrote:Trump won the GOP primary for a number of reasons, not the least of which was we all underestimated the power of the supposed fringe elements of the party. This is certainly part of it, but the other part...and I think this is the massive difference, is that he has a rock solid ideological base that few people saw coming. Bloomberg does not have that. He's manufacturing support through money.TenuredVulture wrote:It's impossible to quantify any of this, but as I recall, Trump wasn't really scrutinized in the primary, at least not until he was the clear front runner, and by then it was too late. Neither the media nor any of his opponents took him seriously. In fact, as I recall, he wasn't at all taken seriously. But he kept winning primaries--precisely because no one really thought seriously about the prospect of a Trump Presidency.

Can't wait until he votes for Trump next cycle. Oh, snap felons can't vote.
