Politics: Fine Politicians on Both Sides

I’m starting to believe that the country, and everything about — including the Ukrainegate — might be divided along partisan political lines. Just spitballing here.

They better have more than the phone call as it has thus far been described, because it sure sounds like a dead letter to me.

My rule for impeachment is: if It is not obviously illegal or questionable to someone who is reasonably intelligent but only a passing follower of law and politics, it won’t fly for an impeachment of the President. The simpler, the better.

“He tried to cover up a burglary...” -> Successful removal from office
“He prevaricated about the precise nature of a sexual act in a civil deposition” -> He stays
“He made a passing comment about a political opponent’s son’s involvement in a multi-national corporate oil money making scheme during a phone call” -> He stays
"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."

Rudy melting down on Fox news. Yelling shut up at the other guest. Saying he will sue for libel. Normal stuff from just an innocent guy.

There's definitely a lot more than a phone call. The house knows some details or today wouldn't have happened. And the Senate wouldn't have passed a 100-0 resolution demanding the full complaint. No one's going to blow a whistle over a single transcript of a phone call. Also, the accuser themselves wouldn't voluntarily meet with the Intel Committee if there wasn't a lot more irregularities to share. No one is going to put their elected job on the line without any idea of what's in that complaint.

As a person who has been known to enjoy a libation or two, I don't think if I was the personal attorney of the President of the United States I would make it a habit of housing red wine then going on national cable news. But Rudy and the WH have a different strategy.

"Just a country lawyer"

I don't ever look at Trump's tweets but in the last hour he's tweeted 6 Fox News clips. Assuming that's not normal it feels like they're scrambling. Not that I think it will matter.

The victim card has been played!

There has been no President in the history of our Country who has been treated so badly as I have. The Democrats are frozen with hatred and fear. They get nothing done. This should never be allowed to happen to another President. Witch Hunt!

Obama was treated worse.

Dems can't get anything done because Mitch.

When Rudy says that he never spoke to a Ukrainian official until the State Department asked him to and that he has all of those calls recorded...is he throwing the State Dept\Pompeo and Trump under the bus?

Worst nightmare is that this complaint is a big nothing-burger and the Impeachment load gets blown for nothing.

I don't think that is the case, though. Orange man is going down (I hope).

I hope that we eventually get to see who the Whistleblower is but for his sake, he'd be better off staying anonymous.

I wonder if we will ever get to see the full complaint.

It would be awesome if the WH released a transcript of the call that is as obviously doctored as the hurricane map.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I  at this.

Those Rudy videos are amazing. Even Gretchen seemed like she was going to shut him up because he was helping the Ds make their case.

Regarding this "No one's going to blow a whistle over a single transcript of a phone call" from Momadance, Michael McFaul agrees with you 100%. He was on Rachel (I think) a couple nights ago and he made this exact point. Said there is no way the whistleblower is going to risk their entire life over just a phone call. Said there is almost definitely much more to the story and that is why the complaint needs to be turned over. Again, I am trying to remain calm but this is all starting to feel a bit like the release of the Nixon tapes.

Shout out to the King of Impeachment Al Green for actually telling the truth yesterday.......

"We must impeach this President otherwise he will be re-elected."

The last 24 hours have been a gift from God for Trump. It's absolutely stunning how little feel these people have for actual voters in this country. The Democrats actually had a decent chance to win back the White House next year. All they had to do was avoid acting crazy. They are about to go above and beyond in that regard and almost guarantee Trump's re-election.

Much like my post before the primaries started in 2016 where I said Trump would win and exactly how he would win, save this post for historical reference.
