Seemed like the safest place to stick this:

A Mississippi wedding venue rejected an interracial couple, citing ‘Christian belief.’ Facing a backlash, the owner apologized.

In a now-viral video shared to social media by Welch over the weekend, a woman identified as the event hall’s owner can be seen telling the 24-year-old, “First of all, we don’t do gay weddings or mixed race … because of our Christian race, I mean, our Christian belief.”

Here we are in 2019.

McConnell continues to weaken Congress and make it just another department under the Executive Branch.

"If the President is in favor of a number of things that he has discussed openly and publicly, and I know that if we pass it, it will become law, I'll put it on the floor," McConnell said on the radio show (Hugh Hewitt).

"I said a few weeks ago that if the President took a position on a bill so that we knew we would actually be making a law and not just having serial votes, I would be happy to put it on the floor and the administration is in the process of studying what they are prepared to support if anything," McConnell said on the radio program.

I mean, is this really how its supposed to work? I guess the REAL point here is that McConnell is unwilling to put Trump in a position to have to sign or veto a bill that would either alienate his base or alienate potential swing voters?

Trump made 'suggestion' Pence stay at president's Irish golf club, VP's chief of staff says
"I don't think it was a request, like a command," Pence's chief of staff Marc Short told reporters Tuesday. "I think that it was a suggestion."

Because best People, other pence people said to the press that it was for security.

Separately, Pence's team has spent more then 250k at Don's properties.

For starters, they have 1425 MPs against a population of 67M, so each MP represents about 47K people on average, vs. each congressperson representing ca. 746K in the US, a factor of 15 difference. If the US House of Representatives were equivalent, there would be nearly 7000 congresspeople.

Feel like Parliament is 650

*checks Wiki* - 650 is the House of Commons, nailed it!

1425 includes the House of Lords, which is mostly useless

The smaller parliamentary constituencies is still a valid difference, and do think we should think about expanding the House of Representatives. Silly that it has remained the same size as population has increased exponentially over the last century.

That makes a lot of sense.

i somehow don't think it's going to get a lot of traction.

If we tripled the size of the House, then current members would find their influence/importance cut dramatically, so most will oppose. I do think a big part of representative democracy is supposed to be about members focused on constituency interests, and if you have sprawling districts that take in all sorts of shit, that really hurts that argument. Right now you've got districts where issues fight against each other. (and think that'd be OK to push for if that was the goal overall...but it isn't and it doesn't end up working that way). Smaller constituencies would allow members to have greater focus and expertise. Maybe.

Days after leaving post, former Interior official who pushed to expand drilling in Alaska takes job with oil company

Joe Balash, who had served as the Interior Department’s assistant secretary for land and minerals management for nearly two years, confirmed in an interview that he will begin working for the Papua New Guinea-based Oil Search, which is developing one of Alaska’s largest oil prospects in years. Balash, who spearheaded Interior’s push to expand drilling on Alaska’s North Slope, is the latest Trump energy official to leave government and then start working for the fossil fuel industry.

Since the House and Senate have abdicated their responsibilities to the White House sheer through ineffectiveness, there are two quality choices:

1) Eliminate all the positions and replace it with chat bots, and an AI that generates random laws from the chats (see Microsoft's horrific Tay experience)

2) Expand it so that the representation is more direct, and failure can cause a seismic response from the electorate. Lets face it, interacting with your representation is almost impossible, and with some of these gerrymandered districts, there is just no way to cover the ground. Accessible government would be a novel concept.

Oh, this is helpful:

Vice President Pence's office issued a statement late Tuesday saying President Trump did not direct Pence to stay at his resort in Doonbeg, Ireland, a shift from remarks offered by the vice president's top aide.

"Because of some misreporting, we want to clarify that the decision to stay at Trump National in Doonbeg, Ireland was solely a decision by the Office of the Vice President and was based on the requirement to find accommodations near the Vice President’s ancestral hometown that could satisfy official meetings on both coasts of the Emerald Isle," the office said in a statement.

"At no time did the President direct our office to stay at his Doonbeg resort and any reporting to the contrary is false," the vice president's office said.

So official travel is now simply scheduled to accommodate site seeing desires? That is effectively what Trump does, he wants to see his properties.

Doonbeg is on the opposite side of Ireland from Dublin, the city where Pence met with Ireland's president.

Now it makes perfect sense.

There is no reporting on where Pence's great grandmother lived prior to emigrating to the US, or if that is even known. Maybe the VP should yell FORE in warning before he speaks.

As was noted in the linked Twitter thread:

18 U.S. Code § 2074.False weather reports
Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.
(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 795; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, § 330016(1)(G), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2147.)

Also, beyond the Sharpie extension of the NOAA/NWS graphic to make Trump correct to discuss Alabama, it is worth noting that the graphic he used during the briefing shown was from Advisory 21, which was dated August 29, 2019 at 11am. By Advisory 24, which was just 18 hours later, the NOAA/NWS forecast began to show the turn north. By Advisory 28, at 5am on August 31, 2019, Alabama was out of the picture (in terms of forecast impacts); that was five days ago.
