Northam Fairfax Herring REPUBLICAN!

Got there the hard way!!!

I cannot really defend any of their actions. Fairfax gets some runway for the Professor to be heard, but the other two certainly should have known better, and made better choices. I could see that Northam's area might have seen little wrong with these actions, not that this makes it right. Herring was born in Tennessee but graduated HS in the county I live in and has a Virginia education.

What are you talking about? That is the line of succession. If they resign, that's the end game

The current president pro tempore of the Virginia Senate is Sen. Steve Newman from the Lynchburg area.

If the lieutenant governor were elevated to the governorship or if the lieutenant governor resigned — now a genuine possibility — then the current president pro tempore of the State Senate “assumes the duties” of the lieutenant governor.

I guess procedurally the AG, Herring, does not matter.

But the governor can appoint a new LG. The only way it gets to the 4th person is if the first 3 are in a plane crash or something. If they all ended up resigning, they could work it out so they could pass it on to someone not currently in statewide office. They wouldn't all jump off the cliff at the same time and let the Republican become governor.

In any case it doesn't seem like Northam or Herring are going anywhere. Fairfax is probably in worse shape, but guess he can also take Northam's middle finger approach to resignation calls if he wants.

AG is not in the line.

flow chart

Explainer

It gets a little weird when things start moving. Next election would resolve things somewhat, but it’s in 2021.

He listens authentically and comes off as one of us. That has a lot of play, Pacino.

God knows I'm not the target audience for the Dem primary, but she seems really smart and capable and normal and from the Midwest and while too progressive for me, not out of the mainstream and generally someone who can beat the everloving #$!&@ out of Trump.

This is not unexpected news but is welcome nonetheless. I really like Klobuchar, for all the reasons you mentioned. Unless something completely unforeseen happens, I would vote for her in a NY minute.

Here's the big question, JH, as you may be in the same position as many learned, thoughtful Rs. Assuming it is Trump vs. Klobuchar, do you actually vote D or do you just sit it out?

I live in DC, so my vote could not matter less. I'm not voting for Trump no matter who the Democrats nominate. Have a hard time imagining I'll vote for the Democrat either, but we'll see how the campaign goes. I didn't vote in 2016, but sort of like the idea of adding my tally to a Libertarian nominee or Schultz if he runs or whoever looks most likely to see if they could finish ahead of Trump in DC.

If your vote could not matter less, why not vote for the democrat in protest as opposed to helping the candidate you allegedly hate?
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

I don't think the protest vote shows up as much in the 90% plus pile

It's always been kind of a thing on Twitter, and there was a Huffington Post article about it today. I dunno what to make of it. The anecdotes don't seem that bad, and the people willing to go on the record all seem to defend her or are somewhat sympathetic. But if she struggles at keeping staff maybe there's something not great going on.

I've worked for some weird bosses, but if they're also working hard I think most of the stuff in there is easier to justify.

Yeah thats part of it. Hill ppl can be primadonnas, so that story appears to be the lighter stuff. She def has a bad rep for her staff turnover, to the point where ppl are openly discouraged from taking jobs w her.

Some other stuff I heard tonite was a little uglier if it were to come out. Won't be from me tho.

A tied race was settled that way and because the Republican was pulled, they had a 51-49 majority and picked the speaker. He wasn't the one in the tied race though.

We use a BOWL, not a hat. Its not even a very nice looking bowl (I would not be surprised if there were Cheetos in it before the names). No one knew about this thing until the last election when the bowl determined the composition of the state house.
