Is there anyway anyone doesn't see this as a complete cave by Trump? And really, among his base, isn't that pretty much the worst thing he could do? And sure, it's just three weeks, but assuming something can pass Congress in that time, Trump would have to be beyond insane to veto it. Right?

I will admit I didn't see this one coming at all. Certainly not this soon. Trump didn't seem to care that the best deal he was going to get was back in December before the Dems took the House. I figured there would have to ultimately be a veto override that would occur in about six weeks.

It wouldn't shock me if Cassidy's office got more calls about NFL reffing than it did about the government shut down.

Sounds like it may take 3 weeks for my contract to get funding again. Just in time for another shit show.

@AnnCoulter
Obviously the gov't shutdown hasn't gone far enough if the corrupt & incompetent FBI still has funds for a Keystone Cops stunt like the pre-dawn raid on Roger Stone.

Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.

On his radio show, @seanhannity said Trump has the advantage now in debate.

"It doesn't upset me in any way shape, manner or form. And actually, I think it's a good play on the president's part to come off as a leader and reasonable."

This ANN Coulter stuff is weird because on my way home, not knowing the shutdown had ended, I was thinking it won’t be long before the right wing conspiracy machine begins with the narrative that Donald Trump was a Democrat a Trojan Horse in the Republican Party, there to hand over the country to Russian Communists and then do so many bad and unpopular things that an out and out socialist democrat would be elected.

In fact I was thinking I should start that theory on reddit.
"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."

Is it possible this is basically just State of the Union back on track, Super Bowl week travel with a fully staffed TSA, media coverage drops off a cliff and Dems cave at the next deadline when the R's claim they've already compromised?

Probably not. It seems the Dems were ready to offer a compromise to include 5.7 billion of funding for border security as long as it wasn't a wall. But it seems they've made no concessions for this 3 week deal.

Remember too, the Republicans are going after each other right now, with some blaming McConnell and others blaming Trump for this capitulation and how they've achieved nothing with the 35 day shut down. The report of yesterday's Republican lunch with Pence are wonderful reading. And that's the optimistic spin for the Republicans. They might get even less than they had in December, or they might have to make real concessions on DACA.

Keep in mind, there was a deal in place before Christmas--it passed the Senate by unanimous consent, and it was the best deal Trump was going to get. Now, he has to work with a Democratic House. From a political perspective, they've completely fucked up. The right wing media doesn't seem to be giving them any cover at this point either, so they can't really even say it's a win. If they do end up getting 5.7 billion for border security but no wall instead of 1.375 billion for a wall they can try to claim victory, but I don't see how that works. On top of that, you've got the numerous people associated with Trump saying all kinds of stupid stuff about federal employees not getting paid.

Finally, the fact that Trump has totally fucked this up should not be a surprise. He's a stupid man, and likely has some degree of dementia. Pretty much anyone competent has left the administration, and he can't even hire a chief of staff. So, my guess is internally, things are even more chaotic than they appear from the outside. Under these circumstances, I'd make it 50/50 that the SotU (assuming that's back on) is a total clusterfuck as well.
