Mulvaney said the president didn’t want another shutdown, but he would do it if necessary.

What is so special about these 200 miles of border, and where are they?

In other news

Howard Shultz is running as an independent on the coffee platform.

Free coffee for anyone who votes for him, for one year.

I wouldn't get too up in arms about Schultz. He has zero name recognition and probably doesn't have the bankroll necessary to stay afloat for the next 22 months.

With an estimated net worth of $3B, a conservative ROI of 5% makes him $400K every day or about $12MM every month. His campaign costs would be little more than a rounding error for him.

6.5 billion was spent on the 2016 election.

Trump Campaign spent $398MM of which $66MM was Trump’s personal money — about 6 months worth of interest for Schultz.

What, don't all defendants have an opportunity to make their case to potential jurors before trial? :q

It's funny, I was thinking those are the two things he has to his advantage. "Hi, I'm the long-time CEO of Starbucks."

He can very easily afford to blow 200-500m if he wants. I assume that as he polls at 2-3% he'll quit at some point.

Don't know who wrote John Kerry's bits but these are pretty good (from the annual Alfalfa Club dinner):

"This is the only speech in Washington that hasn't been canceled by Nancy Pelosi"

"I got to tell you, you all look incredibly dapper tonight in your ball gowns, your tuxedos, your bow ties and your cummerbunds, or as we call it at our house: workout gear. Or as we call it at our other house: pajamas. Or as we call it at our other house: swimming costumes. But tonight it looks like I've done something Donald Trump can only dream of: finishing my term."

"Donald Trump could be the first President to go to the inaugural of his successor in a limo with license plates made by his campaign manager."

"I think we've all noticed, there's been a lot of turnover in this administration. Secretary (Ryan) Zinke was fired. Reince Priebus was fired. Rex Tillerson, Gen. McMaster, Jeff Sessions -- all fired. One thing you can say about the Trump people -- they're not quitters. Wilbur Ross is here. I want to thank him for taking care of dessert. He went to the kitchen and said, 'Let them eat cake.'"

"Just think, Mitt and I are two of the only people who understand the temptation to run for office in every state where you own a home."

"I watched the Oscar nominations a few days ago. And afterwards every single actor said what a great honor it was just to be nominated. ... Trust me: It's not."

You’re going to have to be more specific when you use the term “dope” in this context.

AP: Shutdown projected to cause $3B permanent hit to economy, Congressional Budget Office reports

CNBC

•The federal government shutdown cost the economy $11 billion, according to a new analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
•Although most of the damage to the economy will be reversed as federal workers return to their jobs, the CBO estimated $3 billion in economic activity is permanently lost.
•Overall, the CBO projected economic growth will slow this year to 2.3 percent, compared with the 3.1 percent rate last year, as the benefits of the new tax law begin to fade.

Good job.

Why is Graham so bananas over building the wall? He is on a road show demanding it be funded, and urging a National Emergency declaration. I would imagine he has been on tours of castles that fell, heard of the failure of the Maginot Line, and is just a tad bit familiar with why the Great Wall did not hold. Maybe I am giving him too much credit.

Hadrian's wall a moderate because its purpose was to disrupt raids, but it certainly had no lasting impact aside from supplying citizens with readily available quarried stone for future homes.

They all want the emergency because it takes shutdown off the table and moves discussion to page 6. Trump can pretend he won and then blame Dems when it loses in courts.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

if you're the Dems would you play long term strategy and say you won't sue over the National Emergency so you can declare one for health care for all or climate change later and watch the GOP squirm
