if you're the Dems would you play long term strategy and say you won't sue over the National Emergency so you can declare one for health care for all or climate change later and watch the GOP squirm

No because that's not how law or government works?

Yeah that’s a no go but as I said earlier in this thread I think I would have been tempted to offer him wall finding in exchange for Medicare for all. Might have gotten it, could have still made it clear what an awful idea you thought it was (as Dems), and would have taken the issue away from him.

I think he might have gone for it too. Particularly if you packaged Medicare for all as “Trumpcare.” Not sure about congressional Republicans.

Of course a lot that assumes the goal is actually to arrive at good policy, not score points (at least not exclusively).

Hadrian's wall a moderate because its purpose was to disrupt raids, but it certainly had no lasting impact aside from supplying citizens with readily available quarried stone for future homes.

What could possibly excite Republicans to vote in 2020? Graham is testing a message.

ABC-WaPo poll

•57 percent rate Trump’s handling of border security negatively, a remarkable indictment of Trump on his signature issue.
•61 percent say Trump is not honest or trustworthy.
•58 percent say Trump lacks the personality and temperament to serve effectively as president.
•56 percent say Trump has not brought needed change to Washington.
•65 percent say Trump does not understand the problems of people like them.
•58 percent say Trump is not good at making political deals.
•64 percent do not have a lot of confidence that Trump will make the right decisions for the country’s future.

NBC/WSJ pretty much agrees

His best scores (where he gets a “4” or “5” on a five-point scale):
•being direct and straightforward in communicating with the American people: 43 percent give him high marks;
•changing business as usual in Washington: 39 percent;
•being effective and getting things done: 38 percent;
•being a good negotiator: 36 percent

His lowest marks:
•being steady and reliable: 32 percent;
•being knowledgeable and experienced: 32 percent;
•being honest and trustworthy: 28 percent;
•having high personal and ethical standards: 24 percent.

A bipartisan Senate duo has introduced new legislation that would require special counsel Robert Mueller to provide a summary of his findings to Congress and the public. The new legislation unveiled Monday from Sens. Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, and Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican, would streamline the public release of a report detailing special counsel Robert Mueller's findings, removing the decision from the attorney general who now decides what happens once Mueller wraps up his investigation.

Because wikileaks and the russians didn't just break into the dem server in 2016. They also broke into the GOP server. This is often forgotten. They used the dem server against hillary publicly and they used the GOP server material to dig for material to blackmail wary republicans like graham. There's a reason he did a 180 after a golf outing with Trump. He's being blackmailed.

He didn't have any trouble standing up to Trump before the golf outing. I suppose Trump could have threatened him.

But I also think it would be silly to think the Russians didn't use the material they got about the GOP in some way. Graham seems like an obvious target because he was openly hostile to Trump and rumor has it that he most likely has something to hide.

Since all that was said here about the town hall is that it happened, I guess the other 44 choices feel pretty good this morning.

No she did well. No one is going to remember a town hall a year from now when it is time to vote though.

This fucking guy:

“I’m 66 years old. I do not own a gun. I do not have a valid passport. I have no prior criminal record. I’m charged with nonviolent process crimes,” Stone said outside his home Monday. “To storm my house with greater force than was used to take down bin Laden or El Chapo or Pablo Escobar, to terrorize my wife and my dogs ... It’s unconscionable.”

I'M THE VICTIM HERE.......

Six or seven days ago Mark Warner introduced a measure named the “Stop Shutdowns Transferring Unnecessary Pain and Inflicting Damage in the Coming Years Act” — AKA the “Stop STUPIDITCY Act”.

Roger Stone is the court jester here - a clown even by Trump standards.

Just a curious number of desperate old men willing to commit crimes or embrace absurd fantasies, all in hope of being notorious.
