I thought they were going to vote on bills in senate today...

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) went to the Senate floor to ask for consent to take up the House-passed bill that would fund every agency and department impacted by the partial shutdown, except the Department of Homeland Security, through Sept. 30.

McConnell, however, objected. It's the fourth time he's blocked the bill to reopen most of government that is currently closed. He's also blocking, as recently as Tuesday, a House-passed bill to fund DHS through Feb. 8.

I guess McConnell is not a trustworthy negotiator.

Somebody should ask Mitch McConnell why he hates democracy so much.

Local news reporting on a big protest at Mitch’s office today by Gov and Contract workers. Since they have the time, why not.

The fact that those numbers aren't significantly lower probably means two things. First, we are ridiculously entrenched in tribal politics. And two, that a good portion of the population isn't paying attention in any detail.

1.99/gallon. Donald is more awesome than I realize. Good job with those Saturdays man. Where I'm serious about that gas price, I do know people I grew up with would go down that rabbit hole I'm how cheap gas is the president's gift to us.

Trump blinked. Will postpone the SOTU, have it in the house.

Thank you for your sacrifice. That’s what we are supposed to say according to Laura Trump.

thephan wrote:heard a teaser that he plans to deliver the SOTU outside the capital. You know that is not happening. He is an indoor guy. If he did you might imagine a protest erupting. This is an idea that lacks quality. A potential upside is the freelance carpentry jobs that he could create for displaced workers.

Also, it wouldn't be a SOTU. As tv noted above, the requirement is to present information to Congress.

Did anybody mention this gem from Lara Trump (dip shit Eric's wife, Trump 2020 campaign advisor and all-around cunt):

“Listen, it’s not fair to you and we all get that,” Lara Trump said. “But this is so much bigger than any one person. It is a little bit of pain but it’s going to be for the future of our country. And their children and their grandchildren and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice right now.”

That's actually a fine message, imo, in the context of this dogshit ploy. Way worse was Wilbur Ross telling people to get a bank loan

This is the guy I think I like least. He is so untethered from reality, and when he speaks he seems like he escaped from the home. He is supposed to be a titan, but he has not given up his holdings in key companies that he has some sway over the success of through regulation and policy, even though he lied repeatedly that he has liquidated the holdings. Then there is the general misunderstanding of the cost to manufacture as it related to cost to consumer (that half penny argument). He's just a horrible human who shares a lack of empathy with his boss.
