Yeah, losing the breadbasket of the country would've been great for the Union in the late 19th century. I'm sure everything would've turned out great.

Ironically, there would probably be a wall built between the USA and the CSA.

a heh

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An anti-tax group seeking to roll back a package of tax increases approved by the Legislature to help fund a teacher pay raise said Monday they are abandoning their effort.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court's recent decision to toss the group's ballot initiative didn't leave them enough time to gather the 42,000 signatures they needed to place the question on the November ballot, said Ronda Vuillemont-Smith, one of the organizers of Oklahoma Taxpayers Unite.

"The court really cut us short on time," Vuillemont-Smith said.

The anti-tax group led by former U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn was seeking a public vote to repeal tax hikes on cigarettes, fuel and energy production that were approved by the GOP-controlled Legislature earlier this year to help fund an average teacher pay raise of $6,100. The tax increases took effect on Sunday.

But the Supreme Court ruled a description of the proposal on signature pages was insufficient and that its ballot title was misleading. The court said the group would have to start over with a new petition and gather the required number of signatures by July 18.

in despicable ghoul updates:

Maine Go Paul LePage plans to veto Medicaid expansion funding because providing health insurance to people on the lower income scale apparently hurts the economy (it doesn't)

Kentucky Gov Matt Bevin is cutting dental and vision from Medicaid because he's mad that work requirements were deemed wrong by a judge; teeth and eyes? who needs those?!

on a completely unrelated note, evidence suggests access and quality of care has improved since the ACA was implemented. Better 'fix' that!

Partisanship is fun.

I forgot all the big wins for conservatives she has been behind. Bogus argument.

or to think that had the situation been on the other foot in 2016, the Democrats wouldnt have done the exact same thing to leave a vacant liberal seat open. It's all politics and power. Both sides have done it, basically since Bork nomination in 1987.
Bork was scuttled because it went from a swing vote to a hard right and the democrats had the senate. The Senate approved Kennedy 97-0. BOTH SIDES

It was dumb strategy to try and block Gorsuch, no matter how pissed you guys were (and not really you guys because none of us have votes, I'm just refering to the Senate Democrats), because it is unlikely the 50 votes would have been there to change the rules now with the "swing" justice retiring.
When Gorsuch was confirmed, McCain was healthy and the prospect of a Doug Jones victory was almost literally impossible. At that moment it was 52-48 with no prospect of it changing anytime soon and allowing Gorsuch to go through without a filibuster after not holding hearings for Merrick Garland was just impossible. There's no reason to think that if the SC filibuster was in place with those numbers that you would ever get three republican defectors, swing justice or not. Even today I think all Republicans would fall in line on this motion, depending on the justice. It would be a proxy vote for whomever is on the table.

I don't agree that all Republicans today would fall in line, but I guess we'll never know. I think its an open question on how some would vote, the pressure from both sides would be crazy

The text sent to me matches both those reports — indeed, it makes it clear that “shortly after the election” means just over 14 hours after polls closed. But the text doesn’t come from anyone, like Kushner or Flynn, inside the Trump team. It comes from someone who, I believe, had already done real damage to the United States as part of the Russian attack. That person understood the cooperation with Syria in terms of the US backing Bashar al-Assad, not in terms of fighting ISIS.

I’m making this public now because a David Ignatius report Thursday maps out an imminent deal with Russia and Israel that sounds like what was described to me within hours of the election. This deal appears to be the culmination of an effort that those involved in the Russian attack worked to implement within hours after the election.

Many good conversations with North Korea-it is going well! In the meantime, no Rocket Launches or Nuclear Testing in 8 months. All of Asia is thrilled. Only the Opposition Party, which includes the Fake News, is complaining. If not for me, we would now be at War with North Korea!

Of course, he overlooks the fact that he would've been a big reason why we were at war with NK in the first place.

Now that Harley-Davidson is moving part of its operation out of the U.S., my Administration is working with other Motor Cycle companies who want to move into the U.S. Harley customers are not happy with their move - sales are down 7% in 2017. The U.S. is where the Action is!

First, it should be "were" down since, ya know, its 2018 and HOG operates on a calendar year. Second, maybe he can explain how 2017 sales (which actually were down 7%) were impacted by an announcement that occurred six months after HOG's fiscal year ended. Third, HOG motorcycle-related sales were up in Q1 2018. Fourth, HOG's stock is up nearly 2% in the seven trading days since its announcement. In other words, comrade Trump's tweet is nonsensical and he is a moron.

Everybody have a happy Fourth of July; who knows how many more we have left.

Also, a lot of people who want a Harley want a Harley. They don't want a BMW so bringing in different bike manufacturers doesn't really help.

Michael Cohen the lawyer for the Donald is going to flip, or has already done so.

This reminds me of a lawyer of Richard Nixon. One John Dean.
