I got a $25 Chili's gift card from Christmas. My aunt always gets me a gift card to some random chain restaurant. I wish I could talk to her about having a no gift policy between us, but she's kinda out of it, so I don't know. Guess I'll get some ribs.

Chili's website isn't loading for me. Wanted to see how much food I could get for 25 bones.

I mean for a party of four you may struggle a bit, but if it's just you, you own the place and the cow out back.

Since the board wasn't really helpful, I decided to use my gift card on Lincoln in the Bardo and the new Neal Stephenson book. (I guess Lincoln in the Bardo came to my attention through BSG, so you guys were helpful a bit after all.)

I am actually kind of excited to read the Neal Stephenson book--I hope working with a co-author has minimized some of the annoyances that have crept into his most recent books. (Though I enjoyed Reamde more than most, and I may be the only person who like Anathem and really liked the Baroque Cycle.)

I downloaded the audio book for that. Haven't finished. Found the first hour or so incredibly confusing with all the quotes

The book doesn't really give away its narrative structure so you sort of have to figure it out as it goes along. I guess I could see that being confusing in an audiobook.

i picked the audiobook version bc it was supposed to be groundbreaking or whatever with 50 different people voicing all the characters. i should probably try and finish it.

I liked Anathem, Baroque cycle had real boring patches I couldn't get past.

Well, to be fair, I have spent a lot of time studying 17th c. political thought and philosophy, so I find that stuff more interesting than most. (I especially appreciated the dig on William Penn.) I actually think it was a pretty crazy idea to write three long volumes on that stuff--he obviously did a boatload of research.

I like both Anathem and Baroque Cycle. Actually haven't disliked any Neal S that I've read.

Mrs. Smitty just fed two deer slices of Apple and pears. We're at Ocean Shores which is a shore next to an ocean. The deer ate the fruit out of her hand.

I'm hoping there's a coastline restaurant on the beach at ocean shores, s just so no one gets confused as to where they are.

I love the beach in winter, and I mean that littorally.
